What do you mean by extension?
Like I just used it to make it longer.

Hope this helps you visualize the wiring now. All purple = Same thing. All Gray = Same thing. You DO NOT need the extension, but as you can see it helped me place my RJ adapter a bit further than the initial box here:

What wiring do you need to do in the RJ12 box? Any at all? I see the red and black wires coming out of your box.
