How cold can seeds germinate?

I bought a little humidity/temperature reader. The seeds are in a room about 63°. I have them on a heat mat. Tonight is 2 full days since i planted them. Nothing has broken soil yet. I threw the reader in with the pots. It was 56°. I moved the pots to the warmest spot a could find, 68°. Do you think they will germinate? Ugh…this growing cannabis is harshing my buzz! Lol. Any input is appreciated

I was able to sprout 2 seeds at 71F and 70% RH.

Could you tell us more about your method? Did you soak the seeds first? What type of medium? Are you using humidity domes?

Anything less then 72° and you start seeing a decline in germ rates that’s why some people use boxy domes and heat mats. Soak the seeds 24 hours in water with hydrogen peroxide then plant them a finger nail deep ,seed sideways, dome them. At lower Temps it can take up to a week for them pop

Do have a space heater u need to get the temp up if ur growin in a tent open a vent on ur tent and place a box fan in front and then place a space heater behind the box fan but not to close this will push hot air into ur tent which should bring up ur temps

I do not have a grow tent…but i hear what you are saying. I never thought about a space heater. I can rig something. But is it worth it? Are these seeds damaged? Should i start over? Will i grow plants that wont flower well?

Nah they re not damaged you gotta remember seeds are naturally designed to withstand a winter or 4 and spring up once they get moist , they’ll flower just fine

In hindsight I should have bought the heating mat with the kit I have. I just put a laundry basket upside down over a heating vent and put the tray/dome on top of that. Temp is now 75F (was 68F when I woke up). Temp at the register when furnace kicks on is 90F.

This is a great neighborhood and so on this momentous day of good news I ran here first. Folks…all is seeds came through the soil today. What a relief. Thanks for the support these last few days. I hope one day i can be just as helpful

You may get lucky but you would have alot better germination rate at Temps over 70 at all times. 75 is perfect imo.
They may take longer to pop at lower Temps most certainly, if they do pop.
Don’t give up and throw them out if they don’t pop. Try keep Temps stable and they will rot or pop at some point…
Goid luck :sunglasses:

I hate that other people are having this issue but im glad its not just me. Seed started out soaking for about 14 hours at room temp then put them in a damp paper towel for sbout 48 hours. Since i am in Kentucky and it is Feb. I am also dealing with cooler temps. The room these were in ranges in temp from 68 to 71. Normally my seeds will pop after about 36 hours in damp paper towel but not this time. I put the damp paper towel on a glass dinner plate and fold the paper towel twice making 3 layers. I place the seed on the bottom layer with 2 layers on top. Yesterday I put the plate in the cable box and left it for 12 hours to warm it up. Still had not cracked after 12 hours. Maybe i should have given it more time but instead i thought i would go a different path all together. Last night i put a 3 inch fiber pot full of soil under the flourcent light so it would be warm incase the seed didnt pop. This morning i went ahead and put the seed in soil and placed the bottom half of a water bottle over it. Now it is at a constant temp of 74. Not sure if I made the right move but i guess i will know in a few days.
