Been testing my server…works great…had my wife shut it down while I was on a road trip and it successfully switches to the next backup server…but…
Yesterday and last night tons of activity trying to hack my server from China, New Zealand, and Switzerland…I shut down the server to check and thunk.
My security held, and their pings didn’t affect my service.
However, it does bring up something I did not plan for.
Did math:
I am switching to spectrum business however they haven’t updated my area yet to fiberoptic which provides service speeds if 1000mbps download 1000mbps upload. Or 1gig each way.
So I would be limited to 1000/50
The 50 it too slow and will create bottlenecks. People will have delays and issues after many people at once trying to voice call, video call, transfer files…I need the 1000 upload as well.
I found that cloudflare offers free service at 1000 gigabit of use/month $0.05/gig after…checking into it and trying out the service to see how it performs…if it does well… I’ll switch it and I’ll use my home server once I get updated to 1000/1000.
Found that older used servers without hard drives are pretty cheap…so building a servers rack that is scalable shouldn’t be the issue…the issue will be scaling the connection speed…I may have to eventually switch the app to a subscription service to cover costs…but hopefully I can finger something out…that doesn’t require that.
I got everything perfectly working in the messenger app and all Easter eggs in the Android version.
iOS version everything in messenger is completed and functional and two of the Easter eggs, but the hide and seek game is taking longer to troubleshoot than I thought it would.
Getting close…still waiting on spectrum to update my services to business level service from residential…
I will not be sending for production until I have the server all connected and services updated…my current setup and residential services will not be sufficient nor allowed on residential…want to make sure the messenger service scales up properly before sending to production…
Point being… it’ll be a long beta test period for the messenger app due to the possibility of scaling issues.
Well… it’s a bummer I didn’t hear anything back from the band Ice Nine Kills nor it’s record label about using their song “Assault & Batteries”
as the ambient music…for the messenger Easter egg #3 the hide and seek game.
Luckily…I had been working in my studio before the water started flowing into my basement…I got one song done…not mastered perfectly…but way better than I thought it would turn out…
I may remaster it…in some spots it’s overly distorted and makes it sound odd.
That shit sounds like it could in the intro or played during the credits of a slasher horror film. Not usually the kinda music I listen to, but fuck man that was pretty cool!
I hadn’t seen the video for that song until I submitted here…wow…video sucks compared to the song…but yes…it didn’t quite fit “Hide & Seek” play…not sure what Hide & Seek games should sound like…
I hope y’all have a marvelous day!
Just have to test the messenger across android and iOS…
I’m still in the hospital bud…I think this is day 12 or 13. Surgery went well, it was what happened after that was bad. They were shoving tubes down my throat sucking out bile as I was puking straight bile. Ended up cutting me off from food and liquid for four days. Outside of having Cancer this has been the worst experience of my life.
I’m doing ok now @kaptain3d
Nurse just came in and said I will be going home today. As I’ve said before. I am extremely lucky and happy to have The Mayo Clinic 30miles from my house and in network for my insurance. I hate to think what could have happened at a less than hospital.
Ahhh, yes…great song…but would need permission to use it.
After looking it up…paying a band to use a song…it can cost $10,000-$100,000 sometimes in addition to per use price of something like $0.005/play for use of the song. It all adds up and out of reach…
For a phone app like this, which isn’t apt to generate enough income to make $10 -100K etc. realistic, I might try asking for a free license in exchange for the exposure the song would get, leading possibly to increased sales for the band.
Video is a bit long…but shows 2 rounds or 1 match of…
Easter Egg #3’s in both Android and iOS:
Android on left, iPhone 11 on right
Still have to get my residential Internet services updated to business…but almost there…adding the servers won’t be an issue…already have the info.
Apps across platforms are working very well together!
I have just completed the servers setup on Cloudflare.
With 25 installs on Android, a few on iOS the free cloudflare service will be waaayyy more than enough. Once I get 300-400x that… I’ll require an update of their service.
I have everything setup and running on cloudflare just letting it sit and run for 24-48 hours to test the traffic. Cloudflare use comes with a feature that prevents DDOS attacks and the like so that’s a plus as well.
I currently have the apps using a very free limited server set for turn and signal servers. Again no saved database with user data…only recovery of account alias data. The more robust recovery happens from the backup on the phone…which includes chats, friends, profile data, etc…but that is up to the user to keep safe.
After the 24-48 hours… I’ll start phase 1 testing…with the cheap limited and cloudflares sharing the load…if all goes well…
On to phase 2… I’ll update the app one final time to make cloudflare the full primary and make the cheapy the secondary until the home service is updated…then the home service with be secondary, the cheapy either retired or made tertiary.
Once I test here and I am happy, I will send them both to beta!
