I have four HLG Quantum boards with a dimmer built in. They are all R spec but I only intent to do autos. I have not had much success with these new lights but I think it is me and not the lights.
Question is this: How far should I hang these lights over new seedlings and should I use the dimmer?
I would dim on seedlings they dont need much at frist how many watts is it my friend
hang as high as you can and still get the DLI you need on your plants…I use a DLI of 4 and progress up as they grow and progress thru different phases
I think they are the 240 (something like that) There are two quantum boards on each light. I had them mounted too high I think. I thought that them being brighter I could get away with keeping them at a fixed height. I think that might have been my problem as well.
DLI? Don’t know much of the lingo.
daily light interval…it tells you how much light to put on your girls…this is for your auto flowers
you can buy a light meter or get the PHOTONE app for your phone…
set your light as high as you can to get the best light distribution and use the dimmer to adjust to the correct DLI setting…
I have a light meter, I do not own a cell phone. Thanks for the chart.
How big a space are you growing in.
A back bedroom with it’s own ac and vented through the ceiling. Mylar covered walls and I use cloth pots. I have had a lot of success with the cheap blurple lights in the past. My yeild and quality went way down with the HLG lights and I am sure it is me and not the lights.
were the HLG light new or used?
Brand new, they came in a kit I had to put together. They are indeed bright as… well they are bright.
they are quality lights and if new then they have the correct output spectrum…
Im using the HLG 260XLR (1) in a 2x4tent and get great results 2 of them maybe 4x4 to 5x5 at best. So that may be your issue, trying to cover too latge an area.
I grow 12 plants directly under the lights. I have a temp wall that divides the room. It is probably a 12’ by 8’ area. Lights on the ceiling and plants on the floor. Too much space between?
Okay, I just measured and it is 4 light boards hanging above a 10x5’ area. The lights are 6ft high.
If only 2 of those lights, way to much space. If youre going to keep that space your gonna spend a fortune for proper light for that area. Consider a tent within your space say 4x4,then your lighting will be correct. This is what one of those in a 2x4 can do.
That is one plant.
It is eight lights on four boards and four drivers. I considered the two QB’s on one light bar to be one light.
That looks awesome. I do not currently have any growing. I am about to start a new grow indoors with some autos.
Retiredoldguy sent me a DLI chart. I just went to my area and I get a consistent 17 at floor level from the eight lights. I think light height is my trouble. Should I put them on a pully so I can lower them when they start to flower? Lower them until the DLI at the top of the plant is 55?
The lights are XLG 240 R spec. Eight lights on four boards. The lights are 18" apart at the ceiling and together cover an 8’x4’ space. If I had a tent it would need to be 8x4, unless I moved the lights closer together. I want to get this next grow right. By the way, it is my intention to put 24 plants in this space in 3 gal cloth pots. When I did 12 plants I had tons of extra room in between.
With 12 plants and not moving the lights I only got foot tall plants with about an ounce each.
