I’m new to this ppfd and dli deal, so I’m trying to learn. I bought a new hlg 350r, set it on high power, and immediately started getting foxtails. This had me looking into ppfd and dli. I downloaded Photone app, and I’ve got my readings at around 1100 ppfd and around 45 dli. My question is I had to turn my light down to 235w. Does this sound about right to you pros? Day 51 of 12/12.
This will help you more that I can but yeah, a 350R at full power can be a dangerous thing! LOL!
It’s a GREAT light but with great power comes great responsibility. LOL!
That DLI sounds right. I set my light by the manufacturer’s recommendation, then use my meter to set my DLI to 40-50, sometimes higher…strain depending to also get the best area coverage. I try and get optimum DLI across the canopy
If you had your light too close to your plant then…yes…as @Tylersays @OGIncognito said you need to go by a DLI indication at the canopy level
Absolutely. I nuke my plants with light to get full, dense flowers. I have a bunch of HLG 260s around the house. These HLG 260s are essentially 2 HLG 135 boards. I run 3 of these HLG 135 boards above each plant and always get foxtails since the average PPFD at the canopy is 1,100 PPFD. I just cut the foxtails off at harvest time since the trichomes on the foxtails don’t mature as rapidly.
Thanks, I’m not sure I know what I’m doing. I set the app on red/blue setting. If I use full spectrum setting it drops everything significantly. I set it on full sun and went outside, and it showed a ppfd of 505. I know that’s not right. It’s full sun here at 12:54.
Once I get into the 7th week of 12/12 I start to dial my lights down a bit. The plants have been scorched enough so I back off in my attempt at limiting foxtails
Don’t worry about DLI. Just make sure your ppfd is as close to 1,000 without going over.
This great information for me, and thanks for all. I’ve been growing for years, and some good grows, and never knew about all this. Never to old to learn. This is going to help me tons.
It’s all an equal conversion PPFD/DLI
I need to get a real ppfd meter sounds like. I bet to much light is what has kept me from ever getting those really solid buds. I always get some pretty nice ones, but never those rock hard ones, and I’ve grown a lot of different strains. The buds on the one I posted don’t feel real dense yet, but it has a long way to go.
A little late to the party and I know you have that light as we have been bumping in to each other on other threads recently. So far I have not had mine past the 6th click on the dimmer. But I have also been dealing with the DLI using the photone app and the Daylight setting is the one you want. Our light is Full spectrum 4000k with 660nm Reds. That is one of the options but it returns incorrect DLI. On the correct setting for the light it is only 26 DLI at 18 hours and 24" in height. Just by switching the source to daylight, the DLI jumps to 45 which I know is closer to actual.
Good to know, I’ll check it out when light comes on in a couple hours. I’ve been using tent buddy app which seemed to be more accurate than photone.
I need to download that one too and have a DLI shootout… I have android so the diffuser probs with iphones I need not worry about. Let me know what you find out and I am going to post my findings later this evening. If I have time to download and compare.
I compared multiple ways, and they’re not close. I’m just sticking with the schedule for increasing the intensity that I used last time. I think unless you have one of those apogee meters, these apps don’t help much.
I’m new here also I. What is a DLI and ppplm or what ever. What to buy?
DLI is Daily Light Interval. It is a measure of the PPFD based on your space, height of light and intensity. Here is a chart.
PPM if that is what you meant is Parts Per Million. A reference to how much food is in your water
I just downloaded Photone. I was using a PPFD app that has an icon like Photone. Now I have both and will see how much of a variance there is between the 2 apps. The one I have been using states it has a 13% error +/- and photone is the lowest with only 9% +/-.
I am thankful for the app but I have been growing since before any of this was available and never had problems. I can tell if I need to make a light adjustment by how she looks.
Is this something i get on amazon
Can you be specific? 2 items related are a ph meter and tds meter. And yes amazon has both in pack.
