I need help! I got great info because I was over watering. I let pots get very dry and watered just until 20% runoff and they did great. But 3 days later they are droopy and look sad. I misread the dli chart and had the light 18” at 90% but only for 6 hrs or so. Turned it back down and raised to light about 22” in and set at about 70%. Thought it was wind burn so I aimed the fans just above tallest flower. They’ve been like this for approx 2 days. I can’t tell if it’s light, wind or nutrients. Any info is always appreciated.

At this stage of the game (flowering) your plants will use twice the water you’re used to giving them. I go from one gallon every week to one gallon every three days when I switch to flowering. Otherwise your plants look great! Happy Growing!

Really? The pots still have weight to them. The purple punch feels heavy like it was just watered(which it was 22nd July) although the others got light quick but not dry by any means. I’m just afraid to over water because that’s what I was doing was watering too frequently. This is scary stuff!

The best meter is you own finger. Stick your finger in the soil, if its dry to the second knuckle, water it. When your in flower over watering isnt as much of an issue. Your plants will use more and wick off more (evaporate) at a more rapid pace.

That’s how I was doing it before. Should I water until run off again?

Im in living soil so I don’t really have to water to extreme runoff. Just give them a good drink. You dont have to let the soil completely dry out between watering and feeding, roots don’t fare well if you do. A dry root is a dead root! When leaves start to droop they’re lacking water, let the plant tell you what it wants/needs, it’s a pretty easy read.

Did I read correctly that you are in coco, not soil?

I know they are supposed to be quite different in watering techniques.

I grow in soil, use the flood/drought method and personally had nice success with it…but coco follows different rules.(I think?)

In any case there can be more than one cause for drooping leaves (over watering…how long after lights on…bad vpd exchange) so I personally would not assume it is due to lack of water.

If it were me, I would keep conditions the same, except I would get back on wet/dry cycle, using pot weight as the determining factor. Monitor them closely to see if it improves or gets worse.

I know they look sad, but they are far from dead, and it is important to make adjustments one at a time so you can tell what the culprit actually is and learn from it.

It might be a good idea to tag some growers using the same medium (coco/soil/etc) that you’re using and confirm that the watering technique you’re using is correct.

This is coming from a relatively inexperienced grower, so take it for what you feel it’s worth

I’ll tag @Graysin and get their opinion. They grow in several different mediums I believe, and will certainly know others whose opinions will be valuable

Definitely appreciate that. I was watering with the finger trick and they were light but still had water in the bottom and they would droop bad for a few days. Then I took advice from a few nice guys on here and watered when the pots were light as drift wood and they’d do great. A bit of droop for maybe 1 hr then back to looking healthy. I’m in flower so dehumidifier is drying out pots a bit quicker so I don’t know. I left them overnight and they’ve picked up a bit. I’ll check the weights later and see how they are.

Ok. I appreciate it. I’ll give them a drink and see how they fare. Pots are getting lighter. Dehumidifier is on so it’s pulling water from the fabric pots.

You guys are awesome. So I let them dry out a little and watered plain ph water. My run off was very high last round although not sure if I’m testing correctly as far as last bit of runoff I’m testing all. Even just water run off was high. But a few hours later they were all back to beautiful. So everyone was pretty much right. I have a lot to learn still. I lst everyday and still doesn’t look as good as everyone else’s. That’s another thread.

Kind of. I water every other day in coco, but it’s not a best practice. Daily is better. I fight high temps so I have to manage moisture and heat to avoid mold and rot.

Daily watering with coco but still don’t water til the medium is fairly light/dry. Aim for watering when it’s still a little damp but not wet - ya know?

Ive been letting my pots get dry/light then watering. I’m afraid if I water when they’re wet then I’m overwatering. Sometimes I’ll water a day or two before they get real light. Still worries me.

Coco is a form of hydroponics and is very good at keeping dissolved oxygen within.

The reason you water once or multiple times daily is as the water gets used up the nutrient content becomes more concentrated and ph swings as a result of minerals content balance changes.

Water again to bring proper balance and levels and leach waste with runoff.

Ok I see what you’re saying. They just look feeble after a watering when needed and look great 4hrs later and when not needed they take quite a bit to bounce back. I’ll try and see what happens. Just fed and used recharge. Excited to see how they look in a few days.
