Auto flower issues

I get a ton of info from here which has helped me so far. I appreciate any input. First time grow.

  • Strain; Type, Bag seed, or NA
4 autos- white widow, gg4, purple punch, and dos si dos. All from seed supreme.
  • Soil in pots, Hydroponic, or Coco?
    Using fox farm coco loco
  • System type?
All in 5 gal fabric ac infinity pots
  • PH of runoff or solution in reservoir?
    Haven’t done run off yet.
  • What is strength of nutrient mix? EC, or TDS
Went with cronk nutes. Just fed yesterday first time. Don’t remember ec but ppm was 700 ish
  • Indoor or Outdoor
    Indoor 4x4 spider farmer
  • Light system, size?
    Using a spider farmer sf4000
  • Temps; Day, Night
24hr steady at 77f get to 80 sometimes. Leaf temp usually steady at 79f
  • Humidity; Day, Night
    65% steady. Easily controlled thankfully.
  • Ventilation system; Yes, No, Size
6” inline with ac infinity filter 2 fans always running. Set with controller
  • AC, Humidifier, De-humidifier
Have both only running ac infinity humidifier right now.
  • Co2; Yes, No
I do have a c02 bag at the air inlet tube. Not really concerned if it’s working or not.

So I started the seedlings out with the dome off on the 24th of June. They were just getting true leaves. The white widow is pre flower and the other 3 in late veg. I’ve only watered literally 4 times. This last time which was yesterday I added all the cronk nutes lineup they offer. I know I’m getting a tiny bit of light stress on the new growth so I moved the light up to 24in and dimmer @ around 70%. Here’s my issue… I never watered the whole 5 gallon pot. It always seemed like too much water. Fox f coco is ok with out nutes for at least 4 weeks so I finally fed them yesterday. The week before I watered and there was just a little in the bottom and I understand the water weight concept. Top has been dry. They’ve always looked happy and healthy. When I watered they drooped bad for probably 5 days. Then back to healthy. Yesterday I watered with the feed and they dropped again but only for about 4 hrs then they came back. I’ve done light LST but they’ve always been kinda short. I can’t imagine I’m over watering them. I have photos of before and after this time. I also ordered a apera 60z because my ph testers aren’t calibrating. Not sure if this is the problem. I have well water that’s not terrible. Used a buddy’s pen and it comes out at 6.4ph 170ppm and I believe a low ec. I just can’t figure out why they drop so bad after watering. They look great right now and loved the nutes. I’ve never done run off cause I’m scared that they droop with a few liters of water what’s going to happen when I soak them?.. before and after. Same as the last watering but this didn’t last long. About 8 or so days apart.

Some of the plants’ roots are saturated for the first (or second) time and should rebound. Cold water can cause ‘droop’ or ‘guarding’. You will also see this just before and just after light cycles off and on.

IMO plants look fine and you aren’t doing anything to harm them.

FYI EC and PPM are different ways of saying the same thing. Most of us use American (500) scale PPM.

I would also say that 700 ppm is a good place to be for autos. Watering to runoff in coco daily is fine. In fact it’s recommended to keep coco damp as it will become hydrophobic.

Wow thank you for the insight. The water temp may be low now that you said that. Well water here is in the low 60’s. But your saying I could actually water them daily with runoff??

They’re looking a bit lighter after the feed. And I don’t know if this is light burn or nutrient issues.

lookin decent, maybe some defol… look very healthy to me :call_me_hand:

It’s my first time doing LST and I’m just afraid to start taking off leaves. I was going to ask about that but don’t want to go off topic. It’s frowned upon apparently… they are so short and hard to get my hand inside to tuck the leaves. If it wasn’t LST’d probably be almost a ft tall. Seems small compared to other I’ve seen. Even other indicas. If I take the lower leaves off to uncover sites and leave a few on will that stress it too much in this period of growth?

i LST as well, this is mine after a good defol …

i trim all the fan leaves except for the top layer of fan leafs, leave all the stems and branch sites. that my techniques tho, the buds get very solid, more airflow prevents mold and bud rot.

but i scrog and thats what this way of growing calls for. everyone grows differently.

if u plan on tryin to get some high quality buds, i suggest getting familiar with trimming and defol. very important process if u want high quality
it is scary for the first time but hopefully these pics help paint a bigger picture for u

Holy crap!! Mine are less than half that size at 20 days! What else am I doing wrong!!? And I have my leaned over so should I take the leaves off that are underneath and not doing anything? I have autopots for my next grow. I think I’ll do what you have instead of LST. Yours are super clean. Now I’m definitely afraid to defol!

u use nutrients? if not i suggest looking in to jack’s nutrients
ur doin nothin wrong from what i see, for 20 days old, they look good. mine are a few week into flowering rn… they are about 3 months old rn
my journals if u wanna see what im doing, ur more than welcome to take all the advice u can find in my journals

i used LST to make the branches grow sideways and fill the entire 4x4 area, or whatever area is available.
than once that area is fillied, i remove the ties and allow it to grow upwards for the buds to form tall an big

Yours look like the magazines I see. I do use nutes. I have the whole lineup of cronk nutes. Never opposed to change. I see jacks is dry amend? Which I think I like better?.. I tried to click grow log but only see the pics. I’m not good at the computer stuff. At all. I only fed them once so far because the fox farm coco loco is usually hot until the 4th week or so. I’ll probably ride these out until the next grow. I hear a lot about jacks through my research. Can I defol like yours? Even tho I’m almost at flower? Everytime I read something online I see another post where someone shuns it. Very confusing. I want to stick to one way. I also stretched mine out then took the wire out to see if they’d move a little bit so I could get back in and tie down. I’m running out of room. I should have set the seed on one end of the pot. Do you just tie over and over until it goes around your pot? Or main stalk down and pull branches away and steak?

Now I see your journal. That’s in incredible! Can I do that to an auto??! I see now what you mean! How far along is it now?

Right I definitely want to direct all the energy to the sites. I really appreciate your info. Im going to try and defol tomorrow and see how it goes. In the meantime between time I’m going to look at your stuff. I think I may get jacks also.

so many people on this forum use jack’s because its very inexpensive and affordable for anybody and the results speak for themselves…
from the info that ive gathered on autos, it can be difficult to grow a scrog with autos, because there is no telling when they will flower really. but i think in all reality, it would be the same concept
right now my plants are starting week 4 of flowering, about 3 months old in total
still 6 weeks to go or so, they should get 4x bigger by the end

There’s a fella on YouTube I always see and that’s all he uses. If cronk doesn’t work out then that’s the next move. I ended up getting fem photos of some strains I really wanted and was going to try and do 2 in a 4x4 over the winter but after lookin at yours I may need more room. I’m really impressed with the way you LST that one in your grow diary. I want to try that. So it’s only like 6 months for photos? I like the fact I can have 4 dif flavors in only a few months but to have my own favorite photo strain that’s forgiving when topped/defol and get high yields is enticing. You seem older school and know what you like but what do you think of autopots? Especially for photos?

i mean technically you could harvest a photo in like 4 months, take off the top buds, reveg it, reflower it a couple months later again with the plant twice the size as the first harvest, could reveg and reflower 100 times with a photo. and u can choose the exact time u wanna flower, which allows u to shape it any way u want.
that is why i enjoy photos, u can do literally anything u want with them.
some people do 2 in a 4x4, and kinda grow the plants to each fill a entire 2x4 area. could get around a pound or more off each plant doing that, from what i hear and see on here

i have never used autopots, i do hear many good things on them, i do wanna get some autopots and try em on my next grow

I had no idea there’s that much control and manipulation in photos. Seems way more forgiving and easy. I think I’ll probably do photos next run in the tent cause the autos will do fine in a window or outside this time of yr. I like the autopots from what I’ve seen and the ease/yields are making it easy to switch.

so did you figure out the droop after watering? i noticed u say you dont wanna water too much

ive received advice as far as overwatering goes, and im gonna give it to u as well because it helped me.
the best advice i got was that overwatering comes from watering too often, not how much water you use.
especially if ur using nutes now, i think you are gonna want to slowly fill the entire pot an make sure the entire bit of soil is wet, and get a decent amount of run off coming back out the bottom. than wait a few days for it to dry up nice before doing it again.
it will help prevent salt buildup and problems down the road, and you can check that runoff pH and ppm values to know whether your adding too many nutes or if ur not adding enough, or if the pH is off. runoff at this point is definitely beneficial…

with room temp water usually lol sorry didnt mean to go so off topic. but i hope i could help with some insight (as much as i could anyways)
i could definitely direct u to someone a lot more knowledgeable with autos if u want as well. i know @LiesGrows has a lot more knowledge than me … with basically everything, but in this case, autos especially.
and if u decide to switch over to photos and decide to join the dark side and learn the way of the scrog young padawan, than im your man
i can get u edumucated, with some help from some old friends
its funny cuz its some old people, good pun. i crack myself up

ps. ya, from all the research I’ve invested my time in to acquiring, photos are actually much easier to control and grow than autos. depending on ur techniques and whatnot of course
