Hi all, I’m on vacation and have someone looking after my ladies. 4 autos in coco fabric pots, temps are 76f and RH is 45% ish. Ppms were on the higher side after testing runoff so it’s just been ph water with cal mag and fish sh!t and recharge or just water. The purple punch is getting orange yellow now. Not sure how to figure this out just by pics. Ph has been 6.3 ish going on and 6.2 runoff. Ppm on this purple was 600 before I left and I fed her. Any input is always appreciated. I’ve received so much help from you guys. Thanks again
In coco your ph target is 5.8 what are you using to feed
I use cronk industries line. Cal mag, Clyde, bud booster, sticky bandit and sometimes monkey juice. All in accordance with their schedule. And sometimes less than the schedule because runoff is high. In between feeding its just ph water 6.2 to 6.5. Ph water before recharge or fish sh before I add. I didn’t know I should be at 5.8. Runoff was at that a few weeks ago so I started going for 6.5 or lower. Maybe not the best idea. First grow btw.
I meant ppm runoff was in the mid 2s ec.
This is kind of a no no in coco. Same with feeding ph over 6. If you see an issue flush down then immediately reset nutrients to around 1000ppm at 5.8.
To keep from getting to this point apply feed to get around 25% runoff. You basically want to rinse out old and replace with new every feeding. Which should probably be daily if not twice per day depending on pot size.
Ok so keep my ph 5.8. Got it. I’ll have my babysitter do a flush at 5.8 and then feed. But if I feed daily isn’t that over watering? I usually wait until the pots get light but not completely dry. I did that early on and had over watering issues. So if I check runoff after a regular watering with just 5.8ph (add cal mag or no?) and the Ppm is high I should just flush with 5.8 and restart nutes? I assumed that after a feed in flower since they get dry quicker I do just ph water, and check ppm runoff thats how I decide if they get water or fed the next time. Schedule says every 2 or so feeds just use ph water so I’ll alternate and use the recharge/ fish in one of the random waterings. And pot size is 5 gal.
The ppms will be on the higher side when checking the run off. I feed 1000-1100 ppms daily and the run off is around 15-1600 ppms with a 5.8 ph Like dbrn mentioned coco needs to be fed daily if not more for 25 to 30% run off each time. Cal Mag I would quit using it if you have been adding it on a regular basis. Coco and the plant doesn’t like straight water if I feel like I need to do a flush I use the nutrient mix at normal strength. Over watering in coco is something that is hard to do I feed for run off daily from seedling to harvest.
Your description is more like a soil grow is treated. The mechanical properties of coco are a lot different, and if fed around time lights come on will probably dry out a lot by the time lights go out. If coco is allowed to dry completely out will cause more problems than good.
So they flushed all 4 and got ppm to 1050 and apparently they look sad but I’ll have a better idea tomorrow. Not sure how long it takes for this to turn around but thanks for all the help. Very much appreciated.
Plants will typically droop after having roots soaked. They should cone back pretty quickly.
I have noticed it usually takes a couple hours. How long does it take to know the flush worked? Babysitter said the others after the flush started turning yellow as well.
You can tell flush worked by checking runoff. Plants looking yellow after flush sounds like nutrients weren’t reset. When i posted that coco needs to be fed daily yellow plants are result of not doing that.
FaceTime video showed they seem ok after the flush. I think babysitter did a swell job. Unfortunately she changed the apera meter to another setting to the dsd shows much different runoff data. Apparently they were watered again today and runoff was done but haven’t heard anything yet.
You’ve commented on a few of my posts. I appreciate it. There’s so much conflicting data out here but you make it easy to understand. Again thank you. And everyone else I appreciate the tips and pointers every time.
Your data tells me nutrients isn’t the problem!! Outside of 1 plant not using as much ppm the numbers look good for coco.
My last runoff was I believe 6.4 ish ph before all this happened. I’m still getting confused about the ppm ppt ec ms tds res ect… did a flush then fed. Are you noticing something off?
Enjoy the vacation Plants are fine
much appreciated!
Agreed.
Why do we keep changing settings on the meter? Changing setting doesn’t change situation, the meter measures one way and then uses conversion factors to display different results on a different scale. Find one most suitable for your use and stick with it, for most this will be ec.
