Using 9 oz clear plastic cups for seedlings will make it possible to monitor the root growth. Once the roots look like a spider web…time to transplant.

Get them Warmer
Raise the humidity
And in my experience/opinion ditch the blurple at this stage and get some 6500k cfl bulbs and get them close
Good luck :metal: @lovinglife

Thank you all, in answer to some questions.

I put them back in the humid dome but can not get the humidity up :slightly_frowning_face: sitting on 36% but temp in tent is 25.5??
This is so confusing. I don’t understand this humid thing. May have to go an a hunt to find out.

@tanlover442 Would transplanting now into bigger pots help at all? I regret getting the peat cups as the are very unstable!

@drinkslinger Yeah I’m in AU. and its freezing but was told if an indoor grow and in tent they should be fine.

@hornhead I don’t really like them as my pots are easily knocked over but if the plant grows better then I do it. I also have pH meter and now test at 5.5 - 6 max

@Clay77 Really? I read that you need to fill to top then let 20% drain out. I have been doing that.

@GreenJewels I am not buying them pots again and if it will help the girls I am happy to transplant to slightly bigger pots.

@Cyle1 I do now after advice. they are in a humid tray.

@Jbum WOW! So it could be the light I am using also? It seems very bright but the wattage is low so I moved them closer.

Try spritzing the inside of your domes with a water bottle. I do this twice a day.

Regarding the lighting, one of these clamp lights with a 23 watt 6500K CFL bulb is perfect for getting one or two seedlings started. You can put it just a few inches above the plant/dome.

I repurposed this space bucket lid with 5 bulb receptacles in it for when I want to do several seedlings - it puts out a lot of light in a concentrated area.

OMG that looks great. Maybe you can come over and help me make a light like that. Thought I Was doing the right thing buying an LED grow light. Not sure where I can get a set up with globes as I am not an electrician nor do I have any connections like that. I do not even own a lamp or I would rip it apart to make one.

They say that “Necessity is the mother of invention”. After seeing @TommyBahama pictures I walked around the house to see what I could do in the interim. Ha ha ha, I love it!
One standard lamp.
Rectangular box.
Aluminum foil.
Humid tray
Sick seedlings.

Laid lamp across a desk.
Aluminum foil taped inside box for reflection. .
Cut out an arch in the box so it would sit neatly over the lamp.
Placed sick seedlings in humid tray under light, popped on the box and viola!
hygrometer to help monitor what is going on…I hope.

Sure hope I have caught them in time. :worried:

Yes seedlings need very little water, most is taken up through the leaves that is why domes are so important. With their fragile root system you can actually deprive the roots of oxygen with too much water. In the pots you have a few ml would all they need. Watering to run off at this stage is unnecessary.

I have had to get creative with ways to keep humidity up. Especially the time I had my wee little girls in with the flowering girl. It’s also a good thing I’m a pack rat. I just knew I’d find a use for the bag that a blanket came in.

You did a great job.
Just 6 months ago, I had a bunch of seedlings in 3 gallon containers (which takes up a lot of horizontal space) and used every light fixture I could find in the house and put 6500K CFL bulbs into every one of them. It worked out great.

@lovinglife

This works well for me: soak seeds in ph’d water 6.5 to 7 ph for 24 hours, place in moist paper towel, place seeded towel in container to hold humidity, check every 8 hrs. once seed hatch and has a tap root 1/4" + long…place in a 9 oz clear cup with drain holes with soil. put the head just at ground level, cover with another clear cup to hold humidity. Once roots cover the inside of the clear cup…carefully place in final home. If going to soil, just transplant.
If going DWC, place in a bowl of ph’d water and gently separate the roots from the soil. Not too hard to do.

Good Luck…:cowboy_hat_face::vulcan_salute::v:

WOW that is a great idea! I have a few of them packed away.
Love the clip on fan to. I’m looking to get a small one for when they go into the big tent.
