Help needed: manganese vs magnesium deficiency

Good morning Gromies!! This is my first indoor grow and I’m seeing some Mag is needed for my girls.

I currently have 6 in 5 gallon pots. Do I use Manganese or Magnesium? I tried reading up on them both, but figured the forum would provide clear and direct answers to the issue.

I notices the heavy yellowing starting to form a few days ago, and now they are beginning to lose mature leafs.

Any and all help/suggestions is sincerely appreciated.

Thanks Fam-
JD

Manganese is usually contained in products that are intended to provide plants with micronutrients (manganese, iron, boron, copper,…) The FF Big Bloom is one of these products, as is the GH Floramicro product.

Epsom salt (unscented, pure Epsom) is a good source of magnesium.

Ok, call me stupid, but…do you suggest manganese or magnesium? I’m confused.

Also, considering I have an indoor soil grow, how much should I use to ensure I don’t burn the roots/leafs?

Lastly, is this something I can use with their food during watering, or shall I spray it on w/a spray bottle separate from feeding?

Sorry, lots of questions…I’m a newbie :pray::pray:

1st question. What type of soil are you using. Do you have a ph and ppm tester?

Use both as directed and you shouldn’t have problems with either going forward.

I wouldnt foliar feed at all. Juat add to your water. BUT need to check ph after adding nutrients to make sure the plant will be able to eat. 6.5 is a happy medium, if youre in veg then 6.3 to 6.5

Good catch that I missed. They only time a plant should ever be sprayed with anything is if absolutely necessary to treat mold or insects. The risk associated with spraying is greater than any potential benefit.

I was going to add that to the end but its too early and my brain still isnt medicated enough to put that sentence together :crazy_face:

Ok, so you’re advising I use both at the same time together, during watering, both mixed together or separate? I’m not sure if it matters, but considering how long I have been taking care of them, I don’t want anything jeopardizing my grow. They’ve. been in veg mode for a while.

I’m currently using a 20/20/20 during veg, I see a little bit of leaf burn; not sure if this is from lack of Mags, too much food, or unbalanced PH, and/or both?

Sorry for the kiddie questions, this is my first indoor attempt.

Again, use as directed going forward. It’s really that simple.

Much appreciated Chitty!! What do you suggest as far as an organic grow during veg mode-20/20/20?

Ive never used anything besides Coast of Maine Stonington Blend, their dry amendments, along with worm castings and guano teas. Alot of folks use jacks and FoxFarm. I personally stay away with anything to do with salts.

Ok, so my first PH readings are between 1.5-2.5, my soil is very acidic. I believe this is due to me adding “blood meal” during their early stages, this induced them with nitrogen.

I just purchased some manganese, but it looks like I’m needing limestone, or some sort of lime?

I’m assuming that the manganese that just purchased is only for higher alkaline PH levels?

I expect this is the real problem. Nearly all nutrients are locked out and unavailable to the plant with such a low pH. The nutrient levels in your soil do the plant no good if the plant cannot absorb those nutrients.

What soil are you using? Most good soils will revert to a runoff pH of ~6.5 with a good flush down to 300 to 400 PPM. The low pH is most likely due to a mineral salt buildup. A good flush will wash out those salts and correct the pH issue.

My bad for not asking about pH up front.

Those numbers are way off any acceptable mark. I’m wondering what pH meter you’re using to get them, it’s not one of those plastic bodied things with the needle meter and long metal probes by any chance?

Lmao, that’s exactly what it is

Also, I put wood chips/bark at the bottom of my pots for draining purposes, I’m sure this has made the soil also very acidic. I’m starting to feel as if my grow is falling off rather quickly.

Should I add lime/ calcium carbonate to bring up levels?

Midwest- I’m using Jungle Growth from Lowe’s. I’m not sure what “PPM” is?

How do I flush the plants if their in soil?
