Hey gang,
So far on my other grows I have not experienced much if any of the flower stretch that I keep hearing about. Granted thats only 3 deep.
So I’m wondering if I haven’t been vegging too long and they just got as big as they were going to…make sense?
So then if true, how early can I flip them and them still make it to their respective size?
Normally with photos the can double in size. Might just be you haven’t noticed the stretch just thinking its the way the plant is. But from time you flip to 12/12 for about 3 weeks after is called the stretch. After that they wont get taller… from my understanding you can flip as early as 4 weeks
Mine usually double or very close. Current grow flipped at 12-14 inches, they are now 30 inches. These were flipped earlier than I normally do, I ran a higher plant count from clones, so I kept them smaller. Mine usually get flipped at 24 inch and end up between 4 and 5 ft. If you have enough light, they should stretch!
Don’t know what size you’re looking for but, you can run them at 12/12 from seed and they will flip as soon as they are sexually mature, about 4 wks. When you see small hairs or pistols coming from the stem at a node or branch, they are mature enough.
I have 2 white widow 12 days into 12-12. Plant has continued to grow at a rapid rate with stems hardening up. Training required every 2 days to flatten the canopy but I am just about out of horizontal in a small tent.
I also have a mess of a fimm that looks like it wants to turn into a megacola or some such nonsense. Really thinking of capping this big mess of vegetation soon.
Strain and light can keep them short. Indica and Indica heavy Hybrids will have minimal stretch at times. Especially if you pound them with light. The flowers will be thick/dense and interior cleaning for airflow needed then. The only budrot I ever got was a Master Kush. Before I got lungroom under control. Hard light. Short plant super thick stem/flower. Very compact. 2-4 inches stretch. Next 1 I backed off light and she went up. Have it pretty dialed in now how to get or restrict stretch. Sativa can be coaxed to 7 foot indoor easy.
So I guess a bit more info would be helpful…
I have only ever grown grand daddy purple and apple fritter. Both plants are pretty small! This is on purpose as I can’t be bothered to cut a hole in my roof to let it grow! Lol
So far the biggest they gotten is about 32”.
But I am intrigued by the notion that less light might make it grow bigger! I can afford maybe 4’!
I have plenty of light! 8-100w vivosun a100s
4 hanging from the top and one on each of 4 sides.
It is really difficult to understand dli when lighting is coming from all sides.
As far as what size Im looking for…not really about size as much as yield. I understand that in part the 2 are linked. I have gotten as much as 3/4lb and as little as 5/8lb…
the thought was… if flip a week or 2 early, will this stretch (that I haven’t been getting) will go ahead and get it the rest of the way to what seems to be full size for my environment?
Probably an ignorant question…
That’ll depend on the variety you’re growing and how you train them.
Flipping 2 weeks earlier is going to give you a smaller plant overall and Shorten up available training and recovery time.
And you’re trying to maximize your space too.
They need a bit of recovery time after a session. Lol. So allow for that. ![]()

Right now all I have done is top it once and then just tying it open and minimally removing leaves to allow evaporation and allow light in.
Usually mine doesn’t grow much in flower. Not in height anyway.
