Hey guys so i been germinating two seeds in a dome under a heat mat with a 18w led over them i just put them right in without the soak or paper towel trick now today is day 4 my sativa sprouted but the indica hasnt yet now my question is should i take the dome lid off now or wait till the other sprouts as well? I dont want to hurt the one thats already sprouted the light is 12" above the dome. Thanks all!
It depends some leave on some take off to get them used to the elements of life. If they have an established set of leaves it safe to take off. As in leaves other than the first 2 rounded cotys. I never dome my plants at all and never had an issue
Might just leave it in soil see if it sprouts , I had burn seed before with Mat because I don’t have the temperature thing to regulate so got to hot … drop another one
I did the same thing with a heat mat before too.
Cooked them real good. If your out in a garage where its 50 degrees its a wonderful tool.
As long as your above 70 dont even bother with the mat. Search the forum for germinating advice. There’s heaps of variations on the suggested techniques to sprout your seeds.
Thanks guys i live in the northeast so yesterday it was 65 and today its 39 lol so my house usually stays between 60-65 degrees my temp gun says the mat stays as advertised 75-85 so i dont think im cookin em because one sprouted i planted two and its only day 4 but i just want to know if I keep the dome on to help with humidity so the other one can sprout hopefully tomorrow or the next day if it’ll hurt the one that just sprouted this morning?
One way to use heat mats is to place someting between them to reduce the heat. A stack of cardboard or some folded towels work well. You can also buy a temp controller. I set my grow room for 80… and once they sprout I reduce that to 75.
Dome should remain over seedlings for the first 2 weeks or so until a tap root is established.
So even if one out of two sprouted I should keep the dome on until the other sprouts? I know alot of people say once the seeds sprout dome off but i wasnt sure becuase only one out of two sprouted and I didnt want to hurt the one that did by keeping on the dome thanks for your response
As I said above, seedlings should be domed for 2 weeks. No roots to pull moisture from soil. Leaves do the job for that time.
Thanks so what do you think about the other seed when should i call it quits for not sprouting? Its day 5 … the other one is doing pretty good i took the dome off because i thought the one that sprouted needs light right away but im going to put the dome lid back on the jiffy tray
@Myfriendis410 is me taking the dome off before 2 weeks is up the reason mine look like this, I’m looking at the difference between my 2 autos which I germed in PT, and the 3 phots I germed in a prop for the first time ever and had the dome on and off, open and closed left and right , but no here’s pics of the autos and the photos and you can see a difference the photos don’t look so healthy to me.
