Germinating with a humidity dome with lights

Hey guys and girls,
I was looking for an easier way to germinate as my schedule has gotten pretty busy, usually I use the ol’ wet paper towel method. I bought one of those heat mats with the dome and it has some lights for the top of the dome. I am using jiffy pellets for germination in the dome with lights on 18/6 right from the start. Its a vivosun kit, I’m sure some of you know what I’m talking about. Any tips from someone who has done this would be appreciated. Are the lights even needed for germination? I know people use these for clones also, I’m just trying to start some seeds and am wondering how long after they pop I should leave them in. Seeds are expensive and I’d hate to ruin them! Thanks for any help!

I use a heat mat with dome(s) for germination. I didn’t purchase a system like you have.

I don’t worry about giving them light until they emerge from the soil. If you didn’t have the heat mat, then lights might keep the soil a bit warmer.
