Hello wise weed growers. Newbie who is struggling mightily. Growing in a greenhouse- Girl Scout Cookie Extreme and Afghan autoflower. Approximately 7 weeks in had the lights on a 18/6 but now 20/4. Didn’t use anything besides organic soil to begin with. Added Nitrogen as the level was extremely low. Looking at others’ progress we are lagging waay behind. I’ll attach some pathetic pics and appreciate any advice. Thanks!
Hey @joebob , welcome to the forum.
First question is what kind of soil is that?
Second, what are you using for light?
A couple of questions here. Did you plant the seeds straight into those bags? What is the temp and humidity in your growing area? Even though they might start slow or stunted they can grow into beautiful plants!
Thanks for the responses. Really appreciate it
Lights: COB LED full spectrum reflective grow lights
Soil: Organic flower and vegetable garden soil that includes fertilizer
We germinated the seeds in water and put them in the bag
Humidity around 50%
Temperature varies- 50 at night (heater kicks in when below 50) and high 70-80 daytime
Thanks!
Sorry one correction- nighttime temps between 57-63
Just my experience…
Their growth could be slowed because their roots are expanding beneath the soil.
Their growth could be slow because of cold temperatures. Below 65F is chilly. Do you happen to have the tent on a concrete floor? If so, see if you can put a layer of styrofoam under the tent. My clones and seeds are struggling with the cold temps here.
When you water, try watering in a ring starting at the edge of the leaves and work your way outwards to make those roots search for water.
I am in a super arid area and put solo cups over new plants until their leaves hit the edge of the cup. I mist the inside of the cup daily. I have to run a full-time humidifier in each tent.
Lastly look into the phone app called photone where you can use you phone to measure the light the plants are receiving. @Nicky has an article than explains it in detail. I apologize I am on my phone and have a hard time cutting and pasting links.
Have you decided on a nutrient line? Jacks fertilizer is used here by many or are you working on an all organic-type grow.
Best to you.
Welcome! The low temps at night during sprout can stunt them. Being 7 weeks in, your auto looks to be starting flower. At this point, you may need to add some kind of bloom nutrients or top dress with amendments. She looks a little hungry. Sorry to say, she probably won’t be a whole lot bigger.
Tent is on a shelf so no direct contact with the concrete. Looking for a nutrient line so I will look into Jacks fertilizer. Appreciate the phone app and watering advice as well. Thanks!
Soil test shows that nitrogen and phosphorous are depleted. Started using Bergman’s stage 2 growtime fertilizer at 2/3 teaspoon per gallon for the past couple waterings. Should we increase ratio or continue as is?
@joebob Did those nutrients come with a feeding schedule? I don’t have experience using that line.
Also when things were subzero here I picked up some free styrofoam coolers and put my bags in there for a few of the super chilly nights so they could retain heat from when they warmed up during the day.
This isn’t a fertilizer issue. Your auto plant has reached maturity and started flowering but is only a few inches tall.
There is probably a handful of things wrong here. Please fill out support ticket with as much detail as possible.

7 weeks above ground should be a lot bigger imo
Apologize for the late response. Since I’m a new poster I had to wait 22 hours to post again. Really appreciate everyone taking the time to post their wisdom. Just wanted to answer the questions since my last post:
The nutrients did come with a feeding schedule and appreciate the styrofoam tip.
Thankyou dbrn32 for those questions and I’ll have the answers tomorrow as we’re currently testing to provide the info. I also had a couple of questions below
-
Okay I didn’t think you wanted it to bloom or flower before it was close to full size. I thought once it blooms it stops growing because energy is transferred away from it.
-
At this point since they’ve started to flower are they a loss cause or should we continue to grow to see if we’ll be able to get any bud?
Quite true, but you’re growing an auto. Autos go into flower regardless of whether you think everything is ready. The early growth of autos is critical for later success, as any early stunting will never be made up.
You’re pretty much screwed for this round, but I’d stick with it for a while as a learning experience so round 2 goes better. Fill out the questionnaire as detailed as possible, particularly the lighting question.
I believe it is soil related. I had a batch last year that did the same in “organic” soil. In the end I believe it was way to hot for the plants and resulted in stunted plants.
Just wanted to provide the answers to dbrn32 questions:
- Indoor or outdoor - indoor (greenhouse) 2x4- two shelves top and bottom
- Origin of water- Tap
- Origin of seeds- ILGM seeds- GSCE (Top self) Afghan (bottom shelf)
- Regular, feminized, or autoflower- Autoflower
- -Age of plant. Veg ot flower- purchased 12/21 7 weeks into growing
- Method: Soil
- Vessels: Grow bags
- PH and TDS/EC of source water- PH 6.9/TDS 160
- PH and TDS/EC of if mixed solution. PH 6.1/TDS 320
- Provided lighting: COB LED (par ranges from 300-350)
- Temperature Day and Night: Top shelf- low of 64 high 90, bottom- low 55 high 75
- Humidity; Day and Night: Night in the 50-60s, Day 40-50s
- Ventilation system; Yes/ No. Size? Yes Fans
- AC, Humidifier, De-humidifier,: Yes or no: Haven’t but adding a humidifier this week
- C02: Yes or no: NO
- Hydro: NO

Specifics, please Joebob. What manufacturer and product for soil? Same for lighting, including distance to plant. How are you measuring par. Any nutes or additives used yet? If so, what kind and how often?
Thanks for the feedback DrWoo and Lynyrdsky. Yeah it’s too bad we messed up this round. Had the marijuana fertilizer (purchased here) but my girlfriend didn’t want to try it which may have been our biggest mistake. Was hoping to grown year round in the greenhouse but not of to a good start. Yeah the soil may be an issue as well. Had a quick question about lighting- we’re doing a 20/4 just upped that last week from 18/6. Any ideas if the light ratio is correct- suggests and input greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Apologize DrWoo.
manufacturer and product for soil: Sta-Green - manufacturer
flower Vegetable Garden Soil plus fertilizer
Attached is lighting information
Light distance to plant 18 inches currently.
Measuring PAR with free app photone- Looking into a PAR meter
As far as nutrients just started the marijuana fertilizer (purchased here) ILGM-FERT-KIT. Girlfriend is using the schedule that was provided so daily.
Also wanted to post some pics so you have a better idea of the setup. One pick is a view of the unit. 2 shelves- Top is the GSCE with 2 plants (one didn’t sprout) and bottom is 3 Afghan plants.
Next pic is the Afghan and the middle plant has really started to grow the past 2 weeks so we’re still encouraged that at least 1 will do okay. Then a closeup of that plant.
Next two pics of the GSCE plants. The plant on the left smell’s amazing and the one on the right looks hopeless at this point.
work out.
You’re using the Photone app for light measurement. That’s good. Sunlight setting? Is the 300-350 unit of measure PPFD?
Your soil probably isn’t ideal. Most garden center soils aren’t particularly well suited for cannabis. Maybe try some Happy Frog or HP Promix.
I think your primary problem is your lighting, though. Generally speaking, a $70 light is not going to get the job done. It needs 4 cooling fans, so I’m guessing most of the power usage is going to generating heat. I suggest you explore lighting at horticulturelightinggroup dot com. They make quality lights, but expect a significant premium to what you paid for the Tmlapy. Long store short, Tmlapy lied about what their light can do. Their site lists this as covering a 8’x7’ area in flower, which is simply ridiculous. What else did they lie about? More than likely, everything.
If you want to try and stick with this light, I’d turn it all the way up and move it closer.
