Long time smoker, first time grower, harvester, and bud trimmer. I’ve read and been trying to follow the guides for drying and curing after harvest.
My question is has anyone used cuticle scissors to trim buds? I’ve found they are VERY precise when trimming fan and sugar leaves close to the bud.
There’s nothing wrong with it, have alcohol near by to clean them often. Might get a little uncomfortable to use. How clean you make it is up to you. I do dry trimming, so dry then trim, then cure. Because it’s personal use I don’t really care to take longer than I have to. Trimming 12-14 ozs usually takes me about 4 hours. Using typical trimmers. Here is what they look like.
I just buy small pruning scissors from the dollar store for a dollar and throw them away when they get gummed up.
Some folks will scrape off the stuff left on scissors. It makes good hash.
I use a cheap pair of scissors but most of the time I trim by my fingers.
Thanks for the comments y’all. My wife and I did not trim our first AF girl, which has been in the cure jar for 1 week at 63%. While it smells and tastes good, we wanted to try things differently.
We wet trimmed our second AF girl because I’ve read that getting the fan and sugar leaves removed allows the bud to dry more evenly and quicker too. We sorted the trimmings into stems, fan leaves, and sugar leaves. The sugar leaves and trimmings along with the smallest fan leaves next to the bud are being dried and cured separately to use in edibles. Medium/large fan leaves are also being considered for edibles but we’re not sure yet. Stems are going in the trash.
In about a month we look forward with excitement to do a side by side comparison. We’ll let you know then with an update.
I have 2 pairs of good trim scissors. I bought a wax simmer pot. I put coconut oil in it, plug it in and alternate scissors. When one gets gummed up, I throw it in the simmer pot, take the other out, wipe it off and use that…
Coconut oil breaks down the goo? I’d rather use that than alcohol if it works.
Yes! It does it beautifully and quickly! Also, I save my coconut oil to add if I ever want cannabis infused coconut oil. It will keep in the fridge for 5-6 months.
I imagine it may go good in a smoothly or maybe drizzled on ice cream. As far as cooking with it or baking, well there is a stove in the kitchen but I’m not really sure how it works!
