It’s hash plant next. Hopefully I can get 4 girls out of 10 reg seeds. The last few times I’ve grown regs I’ve ended up 80%-90% males.

I did find a few articles that asserted that cannabis may be sexually ambiguous until week three or so. They claim that temps over 75 degrees in that time increase the chances of getting males. I couldn’t find any solid proof, studies but I figured it’s worth a shot. Last time I had good luck with reg seeds was before I had a temp controlled germination area, so I do have some anecdotal evidence that so far seems to support the idea. Before that I grew exclusively regs and never had an issue.

So cooler temps may increase female chances?

Curious…as I’m going to give my hand at a few regs.

There’s one that I wish I could find again. After reading it, I applied the methods as tested. I had less than 25% males on avg. stable day/night temp/rH, and fewer hours of light for more females. The stability to lessen stress so the leg doesn’t fall off the X and become Y.

I read and posted an article somewhere here. The guy had read the same paper but he didn’t quote his source. He also added to use the blue spectrum to increase females. That I haven’t tried.

So limiting the stress early on?

The original paper explains that all seeds are born (X) female, and it’s stress that causes the leg to fall off and become (Y) male.

Edit: obviously, the leg fall off is a metaphor

I haven’t tried a blue light, but when I was having great success >60% female I was using floros on the cool side of the spectrum. Maybe it helps

So maybe start with 75 degrees 70% RH and 16/8 light schedule? Would you still want warmer temps for the first 2-3 days for germination?

Ya got that. Made me smile

@Gl1tch good questions my man.

Genetics determine sex, always have. If temps change sex, it was a hermie , not temps! Just like us, plants sex is predetermined and doesn’t change on its own. Otherwise, we wouldn’t need feminized seed, just a thermometer.:sunglasses:

When I don’t try I get 50/50 or more male. When I do try, I get between 100% females or avg like 1 in 5 males.

I keep roots 75° +_1 & Ambient same
I do 65% rH +_1 with the lights low on 15/9

I’m pretty sure the last two were done on 14/10. I tore down that elevated setup in the remode or I’d be using it now. The last 4 I dropped just blah were 50/50

Still reading through this. Not sure if any of it is still valid as the report is several years old.

“Spontaneously occurring hermaphroditic inflorescences, in which pistillate flowers are accompanied by formation of anthers, leads to undesired seed formation”

Seeded by hermie passes on the gene. This is once sex has been established and gets stressed into hermie.

So my question is when does stress become a factor? Embryo?
