Growing regular non fem seeds (first time/suggestions?)

I am going to be growing a strain called Zambian Copper (Zambia African Land race)

This is a special project because my mother spent almost 30 plus years of her life in Zambia and regularly talked about what I assume to be this strain growing all over the place.

Now fem seeds at least at this point in time don’t seem to exist so I’m going with regular seeds from a seed bank outside the states with a good rep. They’ve said that their ratio is around 80/20 fem to male so I think I should get at least 1 or 2 females.

For those who have grown or grow regular seeds any input as far as the process? You cant find this strain in the US so I want to make sure I do this right.

The ultimate goal is hopefully to get a male and a female together so I can get seeds at the end of it.

Anyway any input is appreciated

Just grow em just like any other cannabis plant. Think about the environment in which they grow and try to replicate that. With landraces you want to match environment

Drop several and wait the 4-6 weeks to sex them, collecting pollen from a male to cross with a female will get you more regular seeds and I would rely on a 50/50 possibility of female to male. Once you find a female that you like let her veg and take some clones, use the clones to self the plant for feminized seeds or the mother plant and use the clones for the male pollen. Just my suggestion. I’m 8 for 8 on Panama Red males on a Hybrid cross I’m working on and the same with the Columbian Golds. Still looking for the CG female :love_you_gesture:

That is going to be a interesting task.

They are coming from essentially a somewhat tropical environment to a dryer one.

I think the clone route might be best as you say if I can find a winner among them.

Hey there, super late to this party! But I am a new grower based in Norcal, born and raised in Zambia. My fascination with land race strains had me wanting to find some Zambian Copper seeds. How did your pheno hunting go? Do you know of any connections with those seeds still? I haven’t had any luck, been looking for almost a year now… Would you happen to have extras you don’t mind parting with?

There is no DM here. You’ll have to hook up via IG or GN and you can’t post personal information here fyi

So there are 2 options for you when it comes to Zambian.

Option 1 - Wait a little bit and see how my female comes out and I can send some seeds your way.

Option 2 - Check these guys out. I havent ordered direct from them but I know the person who runs it and where a lot of his genetics came from and he is good to go.

Oh awesome! would be great to get connected with hobbyists in the area, having a hard time getting into the scene, Sac can be very exclusive lol.

When she is harvested I will hook you up with some seeds.

I had a Zambian male with her. 2 actually so she will have some solid Zambian seeds.

Much love, @Africanplainstrain. Saw your Zambian male and he looked super sturdy ha. Reason why I love this hobby!

I harvested 2 bags of pollen from him before chop so he’ll be around for a long time

@Africanplainstrain, I would love to try a couple of those seeds too, I would use them in a seed project myself. No worries if your seed run count is low. I know how it goes sometimes.

I could trade you some of my jillybean x blueberry crosses seeds. They are a line I have been working a cross with 3-4 years now. I inbred the f2s from a keeper male on the f1 line. The selection was for purps. Still a work in progress but nice buds. This thread was last year’s run.
Purple love, just because it’s pretty

I could do that.

I pulled a seed from the bottom to check how we are coming along.

Slight green tint but tiger stripping is there so I think probably by early october I’ll be pulling fully mature seeds.
