If you follow my posts you’ll know I’m into the African landraces. Some strains are not available state side . Can it be a gamble when you order ?
Ilgm ive always gotten what was advertised but for example i have a Zambian or at least it was advertised as Zambian growing. I have a friend who has uncrossed seeds who looked at the plant and immediately said “i think you may have a cross.” This one has big fat leaves where the Zambian you see in pictures has the typical look of a sativa. Very skinny leaves.
Just curious. Every place ive ordered from had a good rep.
Phenos. Things will be different between every plant you grow. Ive grown 3 of the same strain and every plant looked different. Sorta like siblings. We might come from the same mom and dad, but we look completely different. As far as ordering seeds online, always do your research to see if they are reputable. Theres always risks when buying beans from an unknown.
When I Google Zambian strains I get Zambian copper.
I then searched through different seed banks to see what each says about it and all of them say it is 100% sativa but some of them say this.
“Zambian Copper Cannabis Strain. This dank bud is a super rare 100% pure sativa strain. It is a combination of other unfamiliar sativa strains.”
I’m not sure what all that means, but sounds like Zambian copper is a cross. But a 100% sativa cross, so I would imagine it should have sativa traits .
In my opinion, I don’t think we can get 100% solid landrace stains unless we go to the country they grow in and them from the wild.
We can get something really close but from my understanding of “landrace”, as soon as seeds are breed outside of the wild in the country of origin, they are no longer truly landrace.
I’m not an expert so I could very much be wrong.
Also, I believe the landrace strains have a lot of diversity due to the wild, breeding patches they make. Pollen can travel pretty far on the wind I think. There’s stories of indoor commercial cannabis farms plagued by pollen from outdoor hemp farms in the area.
I’ve picked up some Durban Poison, said to be an F5, and of the 15 beans 3 refused to split, 5 hermed at approx week 5 in flower, 4 were large flowered but weak and terpene light, and one, just the one, grows smaller and denser buds with some nose and decent trichs. It’s nothing special but if it is truly an F5 Durban Poison from South Africa I suspect a little crossing with another good Sativa may unlock some desired traits. I also wonder how much the space it’s growing in is keeping it under performing. Hmm… Peace .
