Growing in soil despite knowing better

Had some amended soils biven been preparing for a comparison grow, Doing one in ocean forest, one in HF,2 in my amended soils and one more finally outdoors. My amended soils are @7.1-7.6. What would you suggest to get me down to 5.8-6.3 in short order.Perhaps elemental Sulfur?

@jorkvilleyoe , aluminum sulfate is commonly used. But first I have to ask, how are you measuring the soil’s pH? The cheap 3-way probe testers are worthless. Checking runoff water from soil can also be misleading. The cheap accurate method is a slurry test.

Don’t adjust your pH unless you’re certain you have a correct reading.

I am mixing equal parts of soil and distilled h20 corrected to ph 7.0. Mixing several times over 24 hrs. Only t later filter it through coffee filters and testing with Apera testers both ph and ec.

so what exactly is it i do with this.i have it but thought it was primarily for tweaking nutrient/liquid/solutions. How does one correct soil ph except to flush your soils with a more acidic solution but then beginning to load your soils with salts. Is that ok or is it possible there be a mean or method to accomplish the same end game w/o accumulation of something less beneficial.

Sounds like alot of work and a huge headache. Why not just mix up a batch or good organic soil and top dress with frass and have more free time

You do gradually over time , if you swing it to fast it will get worse , give them water with 5.7 ph and see how it adjust in the soil runoff , sudden changes is not good for the roots , just saying you can lower it by using lower ph water over every 2 days it will start to drop gradually .
Low ph same ppm ?

there are no plants in it yet. Probably another 3-4 days atleast.hoping to transplant the autos when the second pair of real leaves pop …unless that’s no good.rt now they’re working on roots, just 2.5 days above the surface. So I’m trying to tweak the PH before planting.
I know its not quick but wouldn’t elemental sulfur transition so slowly that you would consider it safe

YES,the fantastic one tool does it all 3 way tester, gimmick at best, same with a temp/hygrometer i got that had a prominent grow acc. manufacturers name on it and i now know better.its all over the place, flashy little toys, eye candy meant for the kiddies@ home depot.
Usually grab one with your “FIRST EVER” shovel purchase.

I’ve got one myself, is why I mentioned it. :+1:

Optimum soil PH would be 6.5. You adjust the soil PH with your water or nutrient solution input PH. I’ll do the slurry test you did on bag medium to check the PPMS sometimes before dropping a seed :love_you_gesture:

@jorkvilleyoe, I’m interested to learn more about your experiment. Are you planning to use the nutrients with these, or go in the organic / living soil direction? What is in your amended soil? Also for your outdoor- are you going into the ground or staying in containers?

i appreciate it,i have two containers full of amended soils @7.5 ph and
'EC -.61 . Those were native soils mixed with composted manure added and a ph of around 7.9.I have 5 raised bed gardens for veggies and stuff that i have managed to get down to 7.5 with aluminum sulfate, feather meal, langbeinite, peet, vermiculite, chicken manure and perlite.
I then took this same soil and filled two 10 gallon fabric pots and added more aluminum sulfate, more chicken manure and im gonna test it again in a couple of days but as far as additional amendments go prior to planting I am thinking more Peet perhaps as I only have about 15% in there now. I all ears…
I have Bergmans nutes, fox farm 3 part and full compliment of lotus nutes.
Im guessing Im spreading myself a little thin but im trying to learn quickly and exposure is the only way as long as it remains organized and productive.

Yep, the peat is acidic and will bring down your pH as well as add aeration. For a container it’s recommended to be anywhere from 30-70 peat, depending on how much aeration you go with, but the peat is nice and fluffy itself too so I like more of it.
