So I have a little issue I copied my last super soil recipe I made and for some reason this time the pH is higher then id like I was wondering how I can bring the pH down to 6.5 3 of 4 15 gallon pots is sitting at 6.9 and my other is at 7.2. I have been watering at 6.5 but it doesn’t seem to be helping much. I have a deficiency going on I believe it’s magnesium or it could be micro nutrients. I have heard sulfur will help bring it down and if so how many tablespoons per gallon would I use and how fast should I do this.. I’m running clones from my mother tent so 2 of the plants are getting up there in size and I’m worried that before I get the problem fixed I’ll have a jungle. I trellis netted them to save me some time.
Thank you for your time and any help that you guys offer is greatly appreciated
Hey my friend welcome to the best grow community in the World.
As for the Sulphur question Yes acidic Inputs are exactly what you need right now to gradually shift your Rhizosphere to leaning acidic. Elemental Sulphur is awesome at this but the sulfur has to break down and that takes time, I would definitely add it to my soil mix at 1 cup per cubic ft., but for the immediate answer to stop the damage being done to your leafs and hopefully prevent a complete lock out, I would suggest just some ph downed water with a pinch of epsom salt to get your ppms up, need to get your waters ph to around 6 or so and see how she responds, water in slowly with a hand sprayer if possible, do this until you get a significant amount of run off coming out into your target range. ps. Theres also other acidic admendments you can use to help keep your soil acidic as well, like cotton seed meal, some neem cake meal, coffee grounds, several options. I would also suggest adding bio char if you are organic, big helper. I have recently learned thanks to budbrother, that the bio char holds the acids from the Sulphur as it breaks down Good Luck to ya.
Awesome I’ll do the sulfur and water to run off in a 15 gallon should I let it dry out a bit or just do it the next watering. I put calcium carbonate in my mix(gypsum)
Let the photos load all the way before reply my friend. I am also living soil. Havent tested ph in a loooong time. My soil is at least 3 years old. My fix is strong life as it will regulate what the plant wants. If over-amended the additions mentioned will work but takes a touch of time. I always ride through it when I overdo it with photo myself. But I am also lazy. Really hard to get me to stress unless far into flower and I HAVE to. Photo if not dead can be coaxed back to health typically if patient. Just remember that it is easy to overdo a repair so slow and steady over trying for fast. Can put in but hard to take out if aggressive.
Just my thoughts.
You probably have som Zn def that shows at 7.2. Acidic amends can help maintain a downwards pull as @VaHillbilly listed. Sulfur takes 6 mos to begin showing a downward trend. You probably would be better off manually adjusting but go in with lower numbers than 6.5. You could use 6.0 a couple times and with buffering be in range. Then sustain with a slow release cotton seed meal.
Edit: just went back and re read Hillbillies response and it’s the same advice.
I havent had an issue with pH until now and only some of my plants are showing problems surprising my own cross and another are showing no signs my crosse’s pH is 7.2 and looks awesome the other 2 looks ruff and the pH is 6.9..how would I be able to stabilize pH in a bucket of water since I use the blu matt water system?
Took me way too long to learn this one, lol. Over doing it throws everything out of balance and will have you chucking everything but the kitchen sink at em desperately trying to “rebalance” a hot mess. Making it worse almost everytime. took me awhile to learn that some stuff is insoluble and won’t just flush out, but has to degrade over time. So I prefer to go with small subtle changes, always one at a time, and like you I believe that life itself is the best way to keep soil at its healthiest. There is an entire ecosystem going on inside living soil, it is very fascinating to me.
O yeah I haven’t done anything besides add 2 teaspoons to 2 plants and I’m gunna test the pH Friday other than that I have added a pump to my water and phed the water to 6.0 I’m thinking of replacing my soil it’s 8.0 cubic feet and I can get the Gaia green living soil for $140..what would the pros and cons be of this besides a set back.
