I was wondering if it makes much of a difference in yields if I grow in 3 gallon pots or 5 gallon pots.

Short answer: Yes, bigger pots = bigger plants = bigger yields.

In fact it is much more involved than that. It does depend upon how long you veg the plants, how much light you give them, etc, etc,.

I grow in 1 gallon pots and they are severely root bound by harvest time.

Most folks grow in 3 - 5 gallon container very successfully.

Ty. I use 3 gallon but was wondering if under the exact same grow regimen if 5 gallon pots would produce better yields.

That is difficult to say for certain. My guess is that you will see a significant increase in yields.

Example: I just harvested a grow which had three Super Silver Haze, two in ten gallon pots and the third in a three gallon pot. Both plants in the 10 gallon pots produced about 1 lb each dried and cured. The plant in the 3 gallon pot produced about 3.5 oz.

If all other variables in your grow stay the same as well as veg time you shouldnt see that big of a difference if any. Unless you were vegging to long in the 3’s

Then again, every grow we get better so hopefully your seeing positive improvements every time you grow a plant.

I try to stick with vegging for 8 weeks from seed before switching to 12-12

Thats a pretty long veg in a 3gal. Unless the plants get stalled for some reason. If you went to a 5 I would think you would see a noticeable difference

What medium are you growing in?

They might stall a little because I defoliate about a week before I switch light cycles

If your looking to improve the growth and speed maybe you should look into coco coir. I ran soil my first round(ocean forest) and switched to try coco my 2nd. My coco plants completely blew my soil plant away.

Pure coco with nothing added, not even perlite

With coco you feed right away. It gives you total control over feeding.
