Yup i started from nowhere too. I’ll help the new member who asks that question too i just dont think it’s fair of people to expect much in return in that case.
My question was not about noobs and me not liking their approach…it was “where can i point them on here” so we can have a better conversation…
I’ve encountered a few of those folks. I was helping a dude in the psilocybin thread and literally spent 4 hours of my time helping this guy one morning. After hours of help I pointed him to some YouTube resources and he got mad at me that I wasn’t willing to spend additional hours entertaining him.
I’ve posted ILGM grow guides on the specific topic asked about on occasion. I put the dude on “ignore” at that point.
I wouldn’t even start my first grow until I watched some youtube videos and found this forum.
I made lots of mistakes on my first grow but was always appreciative of specific advice given
I just tell people to read as many random threads on this forum as possible. That’s how I learned…because you will only use what is practical advice for you. You take all the advice and then make your own choices.
We had a new grower today that was asking a bunch of questions. I suggested that he use the thread as a journal and we would help him along the way during his grow.
I spend most of my time on the forum helping the new growers. I actually mute threads that have more than 10 or 15 posts. I really enjoy it because I remember how ignorant I was when I started growing again several years ago. Most of them really appreciate the feedback.
I’m very interested in that topic too, but i’m in my due diligence phase…which means i wouldn’t ask a single question of anyone or do anything with my cultivation setup until i had my own baseline understanding…out of respect for those who have invested a lot of time and energy learning the craft in the first place.
I have to admit that I do get frustrated with the new folks that aren’t willing to do some some of the research on basic things on their own. I do my best to be patient.
It seems that a large percentage of new growers prefer to start a thread without checking to see if their question or issue has been addressed already. I guarantee that there are many threads started that are as redundant as you can get.
So much great information on here if you search a bit but I think @Hellraiser has informative journals where he tried to keep the questions answered relevant to each thread I learned a lot from his old journals Ty by the way professor hell if you ever pop by still
For me, as this being new, sometimes I just want a little reassurance. I read a lot. Sometimes something sinks in and sometimes I have to touch the stove 8 or 9 times.
lol I cringe at some of the posts where a beginner doesn’t want to take sound advice… This site has been so helpful since I discovered it. My lighting supplier said I should check it out after I had been through many sites looking for info on grow methods. I think I had been growing for just over a year and thought I was doing ok until I saw what was being produced here. @StickyFrostyBuds remember there are many bro science graduates out there that believe only what they want to believe lol
Not often mentioned, the “core group “ of regulars who are watching the “help me “ threads on a daily basis are VOLUNTEERING their time, knowledge and experience. People heap a ton of expectations on them and occasionally choose to react negatively when they either didn’t get the answer they were hoping for or didn’t get it fast enough. Also highly agree that after a certain point, new users should have enough familiarity with the site to try using the search first since most questions have already been topics multiple times over. Thank you so much for your dedication and tons of respect.
This is a good thread. I always search online for days trying to find my own answers. I have had nothing but issues with this current grow. It seems like one site says one thing and another says different. By the time I’m so frustrated with Google that I finally decide to ask my question here, whatever the current issue is had now become time vital and seems like so little time left to fix it, and then nobody responds actual specific answer as to what to do. Always suggestions. Might be this or might be that Then you have 5 might bes and zero this is what’s wrong and what needs to happen to make it right. You don’t have time to try all 5 might bes and if you choose the wrong one or pick them in the wrong order, your screwed. Tonight was the 1st time in quite a while that somebody gave me specific instructions of what needed to be done to get my 4 Autos to straighten the heck up. I think they would have been gone by Friday because what she suggested is something I hadn’t come across in my study and nobody had recommended it or anything. I did search a few things within the forum, but many times the thread that pops is old and idw reply to a 2 or 3yr old post. You know? Plus, nobody’s is ever EXACTLY The same as yours so kinda gotta ask it for yourself anyways. At least for me. That’s my input. Hope it was ok.
I’m guilty of both… When I have time I read, and read and read… But recently walked in an saw an issue and panicked like a mofo straight to the keyboard.
Let me say this, whether I’m reading or asking, the guy’s here have been spectacular!!! Both in knowledge and patience.
THANK YOU to all of you! Not just to the ones who’ve helped me, but to all y’all helping us learn.
My first experince here was asking advice on bud rot if was or was not, had my suspicions, was my second grow outside, if IIRC Midwestguy, Plumbdand, where first to respond and friendly about, if there where others sorry for mentioning you, this was in Sept- Oct. After this I started reading and soaking it up like a sponge, read the every guide ILGM had posted, yes lots of info, and started reading Journals, and threads by the hundreds, before I started to gather tent and all gear to start my first indoor grow which began 1/1/2024, a few hiccups YES buut what I had read/studied was able to set course correctly. Was very active on a distilling forum for 13 plus yrs most has mod and same ?'s all arose same as here, does it get nerve racking yes but it’s why forums are around. One can who has tried to help themselves with studying up and who has not even put a effort in. Spoonfeeding is good to a point, but as the old saying goes " give a man a fish he will eat for a day, teach him to fish and he will eat every day" and I will add “show him where the fish are will save time for both involved”. Enough of my blah blah blah.
Thanks to all here for your time and effort in recording any info needed to grow, fix and enjoy our grows from beggining to end and dverything in between!
