GranDaddy Purple Auto Flower From Seedman

Granddaddy Purple Auto – Second Run in the VGrow

Hey everyone, figured I’d make a late post for my Granddaddy Purple auto that I started on September 1. This is my second grow in the VGrow, and it’s been going way smoother than my first.

My first run was also GDP, but I had to harvest early because I went out of town and ended up overdrying it. Still managed to salvage it into some decent edibles, but this time around things are really coming together.

I’ve definitely learned how to work with the VGrow’s limits — dialing in humidity, managing height, and keeping the light distance consistent. Buds are stacking well, frost is setting in, and she’s at day 68 now looking healthy and full.

I’m planning to pick up an AC Infinity 2×2 setup on Black Friday so I can start using the VGrow just for veg and then move autos to the tent for flower. That’ll let me stagger grows and keep a nice little rotation going.

Here are a few pics from this week

Looking good. We are at about the same timeframe as I have a couple gdps going and an ak47.
Good luck crossing that finish line. I’m gonna tag me so I can follow along. @Mightyoak

Awesome, yeah looks like we’re gonna be harvesting around the same time for sure. 69 days in. I think they generally are ready around day 80 days?

In the meantime I’m here debating on a canatrol

Next up will be Fatality from spreed run.

I’m going to be away during thanksgiving so hoping they can wait until early December to harvest. We will see!

Here are a few more pics of how she’s looking right now. Overall, I’m happy with how she turned out, but I’ve definitely learned a few things this round.

One thing I noticed is that I should’ve trimmed off more of the lower buds earlier on. The stuff under the top canopy just isn’t getting enough light, and you can really see the difference as she gets deeper into flower. Next time I’m going to be a lot cleaner with the lollipop so all the energy goes to the main tops.

Another thing I want to work on is my LST. I was a little too rough with her early on using the Budtrainer wires — they work, but autos don’t appreciate aggressive bending. For the next grow I’m keeping it simple: leaf-tucking during stretch, gentle shaping, and a proper lollipop. No more forcing branches down hard.

Still, she’s stacking pretty nicely and I’m excited to see how she finishes. Always something to learn, but that’s the fun part.

Here are some pics of the trichomes. The shots aren’t the best — this thing is a pain to keep focused but they should give an idea of where things are at right now.

I’m starting to see mostly cloudy with some clear, but I’d love to hear your thoughts on when I should start the flush.

Where on the plant did you take those pics? You’re damn near there. You can probably start flushing (not recommended) any day now if those are bud shots and not leaves. Nice work btw.
Edit: you’re weeks away I didn’t see the photos above the trich shots.

Thanks! And yeah, those trich shots were taken right off the buds — that little microscope is a pain to keep steady so they came out rough.

Quick question though: you mentioned flushing is “not recommended.” I’ve been debating even doing it. I’m curious what your reasoning is. Why do you prefer not to flush?

To be clear If I did the flush, it would be with Athena’s “fade” and not just water.

Tried both ways and never noticed any differences in the end product as far as taste. What I did notice is there’s a lot of weight to be put on in the last days if you feed till chop.

Here’s a quick Day 83 update on my Granddaddy Purple.

If anyone spots anything I should keep an eye on at this stage, feel free to drop your thoughts.

Hey Doc,
Did you harvest yet? I am not seeing any amber on mine yet so still have some time to go. Yours looked about ready hen you posted this.
