Day 35 7am
A plant will stop growing after 4 to 5 weeks of flowering time. At that point the plant will spend the next 4 to 5 weeks focusing on ripening flower.
Just an FYI. Save your money on those Exhale Bags. They do not help at all.
Day 36 I trimmed a bunch of lower leaves/flower sites, hoping that may slow it down, didn’t seem to do anything.
Day 39 the plant was pretty much completely out of water when I watered. Plant was drinking about a gallon of water every 2.5 to 3 days.
I didn’t see too much droop with the leaves, but I weigh every time I water and that was the lowest weight the pot/plant has weighed since the grow started.
This is only my 3rd grow ever.
1st grow was all nutrients and exhale bags
2nd grow was living soil mixed with nutrients and exhale
(my basement is normally at 400ppm with no exhale bags, last grow I had it fluctuating between 800ppm to 1500ppm with the exhale bags)
A lot of times I take the plants out of the tent to water, when I take them out and close the tent the CO2 monitor jumps up like crazy. I think the plants are just sucking up the CO2. My last run they couldnt handle more than 1000ppfd
I just tested a bag this week by putting it in a closed tupperware bin with the monitor only, that has expiration date of 9/4/24, I checked it like 8 hours later and it said over 2200ppm.
I wouldnt say they dont work, but maybe they dont produce enough CO2 to make it a worth the money invested. once these bags all die I am going to try a grow with no CO2.
This run is living soil again and I just gave a half dose of jacks to a few plants on the last feeding/watering because they are staying light green after being exposed to 20 hours of light.
CO2 isn’t worth it for hobby growers and I am aware of no experienced growers who use supplemental CO2. Maintaining the environment for a plant to use the excess CO2 is expensive and requires some technical knowledge to maintain the proper environment.
For CO2 to be effective you need:
-A sealed grow space
-Environmental controls to manage high humidity and temperature
-Double the light needed to grow conventionally (1,500 µmol)
-Gas monitor to maintain correct partial pressure
-Oxygen to root mass to prevent suffocation of the plant
If you don’t have all of these in place it would really be a waste of time to try to deal with it. Also; most dedicated CO2 users run their plants in some kind of hydroponics so they can push insane nutrient loads.
In short you don’t need it to grow good cannabis. If you are technically-minded and have a large budget then CO2 might be for you.
I’ll add that a former member of this forum lost a friend to CO2 poisoning from his grow space.
Helpful info, thank you!
Definitely still lots for me to learn.
If doing a living soil your needs are very few. Healthy soil broadens ph range. A lot. Stops most nute burning. Breaks down your nutes fast. With living soil my primary concern is my soil and light. Keep the soil right and the plant follows. Top dressed is so easy. Water. Movie binge. Water. Xbox. Water sleep. Etc…grin. As mentioned above…Co2 is a waste of cash for us hobby growers.
If running living soil moist always over dry out. Not wet. Moist. Kill the life off and you start it over.
It was a big surprise to me. I havent experienced the plants drinking up that much water that quickly. My last 2 runs had never needed to water again in less than 3 days. But the gorilla cookies have really been sucking it up. But they must have still had some water in there the plant was still praying to the light.
Maybe its time for another compost tea? I havent figured out or gotten into top dressing yet, still a lot to learn for me. I still have plenty of jacks to use up too.
A life boosting tea is a great thing. Most top dress are added every 3-4 weeks. Add right amount…forget it.
Nice buds on those plants. A preview for me to see what is in store. I am growing the same strain. Every time I saw someone grow these they had nice grows, so I gave them a try , and glad I did
.
Those look great. I wanted to just let the plant do its thing this time with some LST to spread branches out, next time I grow this I will definitely top it.
