Gold Leaf - 2nd grow journal

Off we go! Soaked it overnight, plopped it into a peat pellet this morning.

Finally gave in to peer pressure and bought some Fox Farms Ocean Forest. Not spending $40 on nutes though!

Got a SCROG net too, thinking about doing that, making her a mother, then fill the tent up with clones in 2 gallon grow bags, veg for a couple weeks, then flip to 12/12 for the whole thing.

My first grow is about half way done, 3 White Widow autos. For this one, I really want to see if I can fill the whole 4’x2’ tent with just the one seed!

My hydro store has all FF soil on sale for
15$. I’m gonna get 8 bags.

That’s how much this was at a hydro place in Denver, CO. Its got almost the exact consistency of my topsoil/perlite mix.

This is my 12/12 from seed shes fattening up nice

Short thin on bottom full figure on top just how i like my girls lol

Why not spend money on nutes? It will only make it more successful. Just curious .

Thick and full figured!!! All day!!! Looking great sir!!!

I went ahead and splurged on the soil because (a) I’m doing a clone mother and a SCROG, so I want a great home for the plant, (b) I was on vacation and really high, and (c) it was just $15. That’s nearly 4x what I spend on generic potting soil. And as someone who used to work in advertising, that’s not a sound ROI, cuz that soil ain’t increasing crops 4x! The nutes for FF were $20 each (one for veg, one for bloom, plus a couple more they’d love to sell ya). That’s OVER 4x what I spent on my N-heavy veg and P-heavy bloom on nutes. I’m just looking for a cost effective and sustainable grow method for a continuous crop. I don’t want to have to spend a bunch of money upfront every time I grow.

Also, I think I’m going to set up a little 1’x1’x4’ box for a mother plant and just keep cycling a steady SOG through the regular tent. So if I’m just running a steady supply of colas-on-a-stick, I don’t want to be spending a bunch of money on soil, since I’ll be spending a lot on peat moss and perlite for the clones.

Try amazon for nutes. You’d be surprised. They have smaller options to choose from. Me personally, I’m going all out. I want to maximize yield and taste so I will go with what they suggest from FF. Big bloom is the only one that uses the most. The others will last a long time especially with just a couple of plants. Some people like spaghetti sauce and no meat, I prefer lots of meat with my sauce.

HA, that’s the perfect metaphor for me! I used to make spaghetti with one pound of hamburger per can of spaghetti sauce. Now I use 2 cans per pound, and it’ll last me 3 days worth of meals!

I just bought a refill of the Big Bloom, because you’re 100% right, you’ll go through the Big Bloom quicker than any other FF nutrient. I also bought the trio pack of General Hydroponics Flora nutrient line. I’m going to do a side by side grow comparison of FF trio nutes with GH Flora trio nutes. Should be pretty interesting!

Let us know the results. Will you use the Bush doctor lineup as well?

Not yet, right now it’ll just be trio vs trio

Okay, so this happened. I soaked a seed overnight Monday and planted it Tuesday. By Friday afternoon, nothing. So I carefully started digging into the dirt (FF Ocean Forest is very loose, BTW!), but couldn’t find any sign of the seed or any roots. I actually kind of ended up breaking up what was left of the peat pellet, making another hole, and directly planting a 2nd Gold Leaf in the same pot.

Sure enough, Monday morning TWO plants pop up! Both the same size, both already shed the shells. So, change of plans, instead of a single mother Gold Leaf clone-SOG/SCROG, looks like I’ll be doing it with two mothers. With 2 mothers for the SCROG part now, I should end up needing fewer clones to fill in the SOG part. Or maybe I’ll use the same number, but be able to flower them sooner.

We’ll see how she goes, one thing I’ve definitely learned about growing so far is to just roll with whatever happens in the tent and try to make the best of things!

Sorry, I thought both were in same container. Lol

They were, about an inch apart! I just didn’t snap any pics before I transplanted one into the new pot.

This is a perfect example for growers on being patient!
I read this all the time lol, “I started poking around in the soil looking…”
I just don’t see why? Either you see a seed, or a sprout. But do you really think it’s helping to be poking around?
Patience young grass hoppers!

I waited two weeks once and tipped the pot back in to the pile only to see sprouts in the pile a few days later so you cant win some times.
Now those sprouts are a few weeks from harvest
