Didn’t know about this , leds may glow after switch off . If your wiring is cutting the neutral line residual current is enough to make the glow after turn off . Supposedly even the electric field from a fan can power them up and make them glow a faint blue/green . Now I’ve never seen or heard of this . It’s another cause of hermaphrodites . Who else has heard of this ? Seriously reconsidering returning to HPS and MH .
I’m fairly new to led lights, especially cob lights that don’t turn the inside of a room purple.
My understanding is if they glow for more than a minute or so, it may indicate a cheap capacitor bleeding off or faulty wiring.
I’ll never go back to hid, primarily because of the heat.
My personal opinion is that very dim light on a photo is not a big deal. I haven’t met an outdoor photo grower yet who tarps their garden during a full moon. ![]()
I don’t see how. If they grew up with a slight bit of light then that’s just natural to them. No different than starlight or moon outside. It’s not stressful if it’s constant and not sporadic like a random light leak. I have tiny red led on a power strip I didn’t notice for years and everything has been fine all that time. I just left it be.
Hermaphrodism is almost exclusively caused by poor genetics. There are certain companies I stick to when buying seeds. Ethos and Atlas are two breeders that I use exclusively… let me tell you about light leaks If you are using good genetics, small things like that will not cause your plants to throw bananas. I grow photo period strains With a window unit. Light leaks through the air conditioner every day. Also, one whole side of my shed is wall off with an old grow tent that I cut up. It has several pinholes that light leaks through.. Since I stopped using overseas suppliers, who use partners in the USA, I haven’t had any bananas, not a single seed. I believe the reason for this is that their selection of growing partners in America is not that great and there’s a lot of substandard people producing seeds for some very reputable companies. That has been my experience. I buy my seeds from American companies who sell directly. I hope this helps. But five years without a single banana is all the evidence I need…
For sure , I only get hermies because of the suspect genetics I have . I would stop using them but they really are nice plants . Yes overseas (Europe) breeders have lost it . I would source seeds from here (Australia) but it’s more dangerous than getting them from overseas , a lot of people don’t realise that they can be tracked here if the seller keeps records which most of them do . I’m sort of happy with the present scenario . What I really meant was the trigger for suspect genetics could be a small amount of light . Up until now I’ve had numerous light leaks for years without incident . I bought 2 new tents and things got worse hehe . Yeah and the hermies continue to come from Weedseedsexpress Amsterdam .
