Today the girls got a much needed feed. Its been two weeks since I’ve watefed/fed them due to all the rain we’ve had. Ive gone from watering either every second day or more often than not every day, to not for two weeks… Starting to get some problems with all this rain, one of the GSC’s that is furthest along in bud development is getting some serious mold problems due too the constant rain and plenty of night time showers. I cut off a handful of bud today and will be monitoring it daily. With more rain in the forecast I have three options with this plant. Give it a week and cut her early and salvage most of the bud, but sacrifice the buds being quite immature still. Or let it go and monitor it, cutting out any mold when it presents itself and hoping it doesn’t do too much damage. Or number 3, head to the hydro shop and buy a 600W LED and finish her off inside, no grow tent or anything special just a plant under a light, probably 11-13 light schedule. We still have about 13-14 hours light outside but it takes a while for the sunrise to reach them and sun sets behind the trees a couple hours before it actually sets.
Lost a few lower branches on the plant mentioned above also, ones thad had previously snapped hut had been tied back up like the ones on the other plants, but all of a sudden they died off. Testing times out there thats for sure
Pics coming tomorrow
Adding milk to a spray is supposed to help with mold and fungus. I get not wanting to add more moisture to the buds, but if it would help…?
Just offering a suggestion…
Jezzz I justvthinking of Logitics of moving them indoors at this point they are huge bro
Some might notice you transporting them hahahaha
If you can that might be best option if you got a led with UV and ir it would help kill mold spores
But the logistics have me stumped
I have not done this, read it, look who recommends…Baking soda to fight mold!
The way @MacGyverStoner worded it it seems you can spray it on the buds, but I am still a little apprehensive about spraying anything on the buds creating more moisture then there already is… but hey, if its going to stop the mold, I may just have to. Thanks for the link @kabongster
Its a pretty far out suggestion I agree haha especially carrying her all the way through the bush without braking any limbs, bit hard when she’s 7ft and dangling everywhere. Id only be able to move the one plant indoors, the rest would have to weather the storm… I dont think ill do it, just a last ditch idea to save the biggest one. 6am here and up for work, been raining overnight again…
@FloridaSon I think it may be the same as the baking soda thing, I dont want to spray anything on my buds and add more moisture but its getting to the point where I may just have to, thanks for the suggestion
@AmnesiaHaze I hope your ready to see the weirdest plant I’ve come across, and it just so happens to be your pal gumby. She was weird from the start, and I’m actually ashamed I didn’t notice this strange growth pattern earlier as if was very obvious, I’ve just been overly busy with work and sorting out mold issues and every other issue under the sun. The only thing I can put this down to is basically bad genetics, and thats nothing against the ilgm seeds as I’ve grown the best plants I’ve ever had with their seeds, but I think its just a case of theres always going to be one rare bad seed out of the lot, and It seems I’ve got that one. Ive never had a plant grow like this before, as you can see below, I’ve cut out atleast half the plant, all that growth should be buds or atleast pre flowering buds, but instead its an abnormally thick mess of leaves, shaped into the lightest airiest leaf buds I’ve ever seen. The tops of the plant seem to be growing kind of normal, the buds are forming normally but still airy compared to all the other plants, but normal enough for me not to chop. As I said, Im shocked I didn’t pick up in this earlier but I’ve just paid next to no attention to gumby compared to the rest of them. If anyones seen growth like this before, Id love to know about it lol. Or if anyones got any questions about it I’m happy to explain further. Now the next thing is, I have a huge plastic bag full of leafy trim, from plants that are barely half way through flowering. Im trying to decide if its worth making canna butter out of the trim or not. @Countryboyjvd1971 @Paranorman @Niala take a loot at the strange mess that is gumby
Heres a few long overdue bud shots, All pics besides the last one are of the GSC that is having grey mold issues. You can see why its having rot problems after two weeks of rain and fairly fat buds. She’s a fair bit further along than any of the other plants, looking like I may have to pull her early to avoid too much mold, while the others seem to be handling the weather okay as they haven’t fattened up too much yet. All the GSC’s besides gumby are starting to show some light purple colours, the 18C night temps would be helping this along. The last pic is of the GSC that had two main top branches snap off, lost about 8 main kolas in total. Pretty hard loss to take but taught me a good lesson in bracing plants when theres heavy rain and wind. Id been bracing them adequately for a while but didn’t account the the extra needed with heavy rain. Lesson learnt the hard way. Haven’t done a trichomb check on the big GSC that I might be pulling early, going to have a look tomorrow and see how they’re coming along.
Hey @BondPacker, love following your grow mate , the photos and comments prove to be very informative and helpful. They are some beautiful looking plants! Sorry to hear about the mold issue. Thanks for the update.
Cheers max, glad youve enjoyed following along mate! I try to give plenty of detail as growing outdoors can be a tricky thing especially when the weather isn’t on your side, so I try to give as much info as possible out there for others. Hopefully more successful updates to come in the near future, but with the weather forecast it isnt looking too good for the big GSC
Wow that is a strange looking tangled mess you have there ? Crazy
Love the rest of the pics bro getting closer to harvest
What did you decide to do with those broken branches?
The branches are hanging up to dry, along with another 3 lower branches that died off on the other big GSC. They had previously snapped and must of just enough of being there Pretty immature airy buds on them nothing of substance. Just had a huge downpour of rain, cant catch a break at the moment bro.
Dam bro
Hope they smoke good anyway airy or not
How much longer you reckon you have before you do a total harvest?
As an herbalist, I firmly believe in “whole plant medicine.” That means all parts of virtually all plants (there are some species of plants out there that humans should stay away from) have medicinal value-- whether it gets you stoned or not. I say use the trim. Use all of it. Even the large fan leaves and stems still contain some healing properties, and can make a nice nourishing cup of tea. Just because it isn’t psychoactive doesn’t mean it’s worthless. That’s just my two cents.
I’m thinking the problem with Gumby is heat stress. Just a guess, but I’ve seen that a couple of times from local growers putting their plants in full sun. Perhaps the high humidity increases the effect too?
Ya know I hadn’t thought of that, after the hottest summer on record thats quite possibly the problem. Although to tell you the truth the plant has grown strange from the very start, there was absolutely zero node spacing up the branches just shit popping out left right and centre basically. Cheers bro
@Countryboyjvd1971 maybe not too long till I could harvest the GSC with mold problems ill have to wait till I do a trichomb check this arvo, the way the buds are developing, id say 3-4 weeks till perfect harvest time still. The others probably double that. The only airy one is gumby and i just cut the life outta her well the bad life anyway, all her growth should now be focused solely on the main kolas as theres nothing else there now. We’ve just had a huge low pressure system pass us and thats what brought the two weeks of rain, were getting a few days of sunshine then the low is swinging round and bringing heavy rain. Ive decided I’m going to buy some clear tarps and tarp up above the plants as best I can, not just throw the tarp over them which would cause humidity issues. Thats about all I got haha
Thanks for the input @Herbalist, I like your outlook on plants as a whole its great to see
It’s a labor of love I think most people would think we are all nuts to spend so much time caring for our plants but IMO it’s all worth it in the end
Keep up the good fight brother and I can’t wait to see your final results
Colourful GSC
Method for dealing with grey mold (botrytis), for the moment anyway.
Not many infected areas at all at the moment and were in for a few days of sun before the low kicks back in and brings a lot of rain with it. Wearing a latex glove and swapping for a new one when necessary and sterilising hands and scissors with methylated spirits, I’m spraying any infected areas with bi-carb soda or potassium carbonate (basically a ph up) and water solution, and then removing with scissors and sterilising quite often. Basically all I can do for the time being, going to put a clear tarp over the plants before the big rains next week.
Trichomes are still clear/cloudy on the GSC with mold problems so no chance of pulling her yet, going to have to put my faith in the tarp idea, and hope that we finally get a good break from the rain once this low passes through.
I think you have a great idea with the tarp
Are you going to hang it or just put over the top?
If hanging it they sell tarp clips that grab the edges and clamp down they also have rope holes in them so you can tie them off ? I have some at the house I’ll post a pick later if you don’t know what they are
They work good bro
