What are the recommended light hours for starting out 18/6?
Tons of opinions and controversy on this subject. 18/6 12/12 6/2 24/0 24/8 and so on. Light does not seem to have all that much effect so I go with 12/12 and they can just live in the flower tent. Most energy efficient way for me.

Yup, you can start them on just about anything.
I usually do 18 /6 when they start to flower which is usually 4 to 6 weeks then I swap to 12/12 an ride it out. As @jbum mention there is a lot of options. Good luck
I treat an auto the same as a photo as far as the lighting goes. I start them off for their first week with the lights on 24hrs a day under CFL bulbs. Then I go to an 18/6 schedule through veg. Once I see pistils, they go to a 12/12.
