Germination bad luck & seedling issues

Ive had a few harvests under my belt in my life . Last time indoor was 15+ years ago…i got seeds from 2 companies in my latest grow. 1 company none germinated . Well about 15 of 135 … so basically none. And those were all outdoor on my back porch. Company 2 im having success however, very little. 4 germinated 2 died i have them in a dome with heat mat. Also some wierd sponge looking pods that came with the dome. I have 2 thriving and 2 dead … also i took 2 clones a few days ago from a different strain and 1 is thriving the other is about dead. All this new technology. “Simple as it is” has me stumped. Any help please

Bummer, I start in water then once I see the root tip, plant in a 32 oz clear cup with a paper cup around it and soil.

^^ Me too. I soak in a shot glass or so of water with a drop of hydrogen peroxide 24 hours or until they sink, whichever comes first. Then I put them straight into the soil or a starter plug. If you’re having trouble with that many seeds, it has to be something simple. Maybe they’re staying too wet and damping off? Do you have any pictures you could post?

Yep, those plugs are much too wet. I’d bet all your seedlings are either damping off, or the germ is getting soggy and dying before they even sprout. They should be well soaked, but then wrung out to the point that when in the pod, if you push down on them with a finger, some water will just come to the surface. They need to stay moist, but not soggy wet. Then I’d just mist the inside of the dome if needed a couple times a day until you’re ready to transplant. That’s of course after you’ve soaked the seeds at least, if not fully germinated them in paper towels.

This is my first time having such issues… i just made my first order with ilgm so im hoping i have better luck… p.s. all the feminized i bought germinated and grew til end. But the reg ones i got im having no luck.
I do 24-36 hours floating in room temp 73 ppm 6.7ph water then i hit them and they sink for 24-36 hours. Then i put them into paper towel with same water from cup and squeeze it out so not dripping wet , put in ziploc and put it inside my tent with a room temp in the mid 70s F -80-81 hottest ive seen yet… then to this new dome thing. Now i bought the dome because i always used these pods you put water and they grow but i was getting so much green mold so i invested into this new dome in the picture… i think im going to put a pack of the old jiffy pods i have because someone said put 3 drops of peroxide into a pint of water that i use to start and first and second watering then change to clean water after the seed pops out of dirt… sorry i wrote so long

I just misted them 20 min before i took picture… i never used one of these and i wasnt sure so i was actually watering so much i filled the resivor … so i emptied that last night and i decided to give each sponge ghing 2-3 mists 1 time ever 24 hours and i also give the whole thing a good six seven sprays like a misty rain then i cover it up. I started the misting yesterday , same day i dumped the yucky brown water that was more than half full in resivor… so basically i killed 40 feminized seeds of 4 strains is what your saying… and i knew of this forum i used it a couole times last year in june when i got my seeds… well hopefully soon here ill be able to learn something because i have bergmans gold leaf , white widow, and big bud all feminized on there way to me as we speak… so anyone who can help me all this is not new but kinda is its been 15 years and we didnt have tents or domes or led bulbs… and i live in a super hot climate highs of 100 daily 75% of the year… i wanna do a bunch of outdoor because from august til mid march is the latest you can put indicas outside where im currently located so im blessed but i gotta get this indoor going before ill ever have clones to veg and veg started in april , its almost june … i got about 2 months to get help from you wonderful people willing to help me and then amazing things can haooen… thank you for your time

What do you think now that i in last 24 hours cganged my watering method about the cup of water inside the dome? And do you think i should open any of the 3 vents ? If so how much should i open them

That looks great. If you keep the dome on, you shouldn’t have to add much water at all. It’ll act like it’s own little water cycle…what evaporates off the plugs will condense on the dome, then run back down into the tray. Just peek in through the dome, and if the plugs start to look lighter brown/drier, then pop it off and add a few sprays, being careful not to make the plugs soggy. Otherwise, I’d leave it be. They react much better to not enough water than they do to too much. And you can see them want water before they need it and die. But if there’s too much, there’s not much you can do but wait for it to evaporate…that’s when you’d want to open the vents. If it’s staying too wet inside, crack them open and the humidity should drop quickly.

And the vents theres 3 one on top and 1 per side… open? Closed? Halfway… ive never used these sponge things so its my first time

Are they the peat based things, like jiffy plugs or whatever? If so, they hold a LOT of moisture, and look dryer than they really are. They can look dryish on top, but still soggy and dripping down lower.

I would open all of them 1/4 for starters, then see how it’s doing.

This is exactly what I do and have 100% success.

How are they doing @jose2019?

Not so good… i let them dry out the sponge things and i see what people are saying about how they turn brown from black… i cut some clones since learning i had drowned almost all of my last fem seeds and my best seeds of the regular strains i have i had only 4 grow of 40 2 died and the 1 afghani looks like ifs dead soon and the last living thc bomb seems ok… but they all died slow and weird first the 2 small leafs dried out and it just kept making its way up eventually into each set until plant was crispy and dead… ill never use these sponge things… i prefer what my two decades of expierence has shown me works and that is the brown disks that you add water and they rise up… we call them jiffy disks… well i told my wife to do me a favor and order jiffy disks and this gallon bag of wet black sponge things arrived and i took almost all my last seeds and put 40 in and just doused them with water until resivor was full… but thanks again to folks like you guys im just checking them daily feeling if its wet and even the not black but brownish sponges are still moist… can i send you a picture from just now? Tell me what you think

Oh man, I’m sorry to hear that! Hopefully the next round will do better. Don’t get hung up on what works well for someone else. Do what works best for your setup/situation. Yeah, for sure, put some pics up. Maybe we can pinpoint what’s causing the problems and avoid them.
