FYI on R/O Buddy replacement membranes on Amazon

Hey everyone, just wanted to pass on this info. When my R/O Buddy is due for maintenance, I normally buy a set of the two filters and a membrane on Amazon for 50 bucks. This time I happened to notice another brand of membranes in a 2 pack, and added up with the 2 filters individually it came to the same price, so I tried it because it was like getting an extra membrane for free. It was a mistake, not only does it take about a half hour longer to fill a 5 gal jug with the new membrane, but the water has around 40ppm. That’s where the Aquaticlife brand is usually at after like 6 to 8 months of heavy use. It’s close to zero ppm for the first few months.

This is the good set I normally buy.

And this is what I just got. I’d suggest avoiding this brand membrane. Maybe I should have been suspicious of a brand that named themselves Geekpure, lol.

Thanks for the heads up. I replaced mine 2 months ago, but I went with original manufacturer’s replacements. I’ve been burned buying third-party parts before too.

@Cap_Ron thank you!

Was about to change the DI filter…left it on too long after filling jugs stoned.

I’ve seen that you can buy DI filler to change the stuff inside of the DI tube.

Has anyone tried this? I ordered a new complete filter… But wonder if the savings on buying bulk DI stuff is worth it?

Thank you once again for your post!

Definitely a good call @MidwestGuy.

@Growmoredank, I’ve actually never used the DI cartridge, so sorry I don’t know about what’s inside them. The reason I don’t use it doesn’t have anything to do with the plants. It’s because I fill the R/O jugs in my tub, and sometimes I forget and overflow them ( hence the reason I do it in the tub) and my cats will hop in the tub and drink the water running down the sides of the overflowing jug, lol.
The DI cartridge came with a warning that the water isn’t safe for drinking, so that’s why I don’t use it, lol.

Seems pretty bad for a product that is supposed to produce RO water. Sheesh…

I think it’s because the DI cartridge makes the water so pure that it will look to take minerals away from anything it comes in contact with.

Wait! What?

Not supposed to drink it?!

I use RO for everything - cooking, coffee, drinking water. I just eat nuts to replace the minerals and use a fluoride toothpaste to replace the fluoride.

RO is perfectly safe to drink. It’s after you add the deionization filter that it’s not safe for drinking. The DI filter removes even the trace elements left behind after the RO filtration.

In case anyone thinks I’ve lost my mind, lol.
