Any tips on a decent under sink RO system?

Hey everyone, my tap water isn’t good for what we do. I started out buying water, but I used too much and it’s not practical. Then I started getting 5 gallon jugs delivered, but I’m up to 12 jugs a month and I still run out before the next delivery. So I’m thinking of putting an RO filter under my kitchen sink, but I’m reading a lot of very discouraging reviews of systems on Amazon. I don’t mind spending a few bucks more than I planned, but even the more expensive models have very mixed reviews. Anyone here have any input? Do they work well for our purpose? Thank you very much.

Take a look at RO Buddy. I mounted mine on wall in utility room.

Thank you Bulldognuts, I’m going to check it out right now. About how long would it take you to fill a 5 gallon jug with that?

Not sure how much research you’ve done. Most of ro systems I looked at has a 4 to 1 waste ratio. Not sure if high dollar ones have better output on ROed water. I would say about a hour to fill 5 gallon. It does pretty good, my tap water is 300 ppm. This unit takes it down to 3 to 5 ppm.

Ok thanks again, that sounds great. I just started looking into them this week. I think I’ll give this one a try.

I just got my ro buddy a few weeks ago but I’ve been using the 3rd filter thing also, the black one, is that not necessary?

Mine came with what is in pic. Two pre-filters and RO membrane. As far as any additional filters not sure if it’s necessary, but probably wouldn’t hurt. Possibly could slow down the need to replace membrane and two other filters as often.

The third one mine came with is a deionization filter. Wasn’t sure if I needed to attach it or not but I did anyway to be safe

I did some looking into that today because the one I ordered has it included. I was actually looking for the model without it, but it was more expensive and would have taken longer to arrive. So they sell a bypass kit for that deionization portion of the system. When it’s running though it, it’s no longer acceptable for human consumption. If you want it to be drinkable, you have to bypass the deionization cartridge for some reason. I haven’t looked into enough to understand why yet, but that’s what I got out of it so far. I did go with the RO Buddie @Bulldognuts, thanks again for the tip.

No problem, just passing along info that someone helped me with when I was looking myself. Best thing about forum I believe. You can read all the reviews out there but being able to actually communicate directly with someone who has used product is definitely a plus. :+1:

That was a rock solid recommendation Bulldognuts, thank you again! The RO Buddie got here this morning. I had it installed and ran it through the start up procedures in no time. It was running fairly slow because of low temperature of my water. I absolutely must fool with things to be happy, so I quickly installed an outlet under my bathroom sink, made a 15’ coil in the feed line to RO Buddie, and put a heating pad over it. I got the temp going in up to 67f, and it’s running much faster.
I just filled my first 5 gallon jug, I’m so happy right now, lol. Good water has been a major thorn in my side.
