Plants are almost two months old
Medium is Happy Frog and ocean forest
Light is a 4 build active grow led. Have ordered a HLG350R
Temp is presently 69.3 humidity is at 66
Growing indoors in a 2x4 tent have ordered a 4x8 with 6.5 of head room.
I have 2 small fans going daylight hours
I use ILGM fertilizer kit
The seeds are feminized super silver haze
My problem is gnats! I have used noom on the soil, and put so Vaseline on cards and laying on top of soil.
What is the best treatment?
I have a lot of leftover cedar planks left over from a closet reno.
Dunno if it actually helps but I put a couple in the tent and lung room
At least I FEEL proactive LOL
Mosquito bits for most soil dwelling pest, Captain Jacks dead bug works all over for a multitude of pest. Diatomaceous Earth is also an excellent treatment for soil pest
I echo the Mosquito Bits and diatomaceous earth (for the soil surface) treatments. I also the yellow use sticky traps. I haven’t used Captain Jacks yet, but I’m prepared with a couple bottles that I bought late last year.
If needed, the Mosquito Bits can be safely used more often than the instructions say until the gnats clear. Then if you wish, you can use it less often but regularly to keep them away.
I’m with the mosquito bites crowd. You can buy them locally if you are shopping at a big box store.
Just sprinkle some on the soil of all the plants in the house, including any house plants. That’s all you have to do, in ten days the fungus gnats will all be gone. It continues to work for months.
When I grew in soil the DE and mosquito bits were part of the set up. The DE will act like shards of glass and rip the pest exoskeleton to a pieces. Layer the top of your pot and when you water it will weep into your medium disintegrating any pest or larvae below the surface
Agree with most of the methods above except for the board smashing LOL when using DE I top dress working into the soil then bottom water as water degrades DE quickly but sticky cards are my first defense never start a grow with out them
This was a huge problem in my first grow. I now spray peroxide water as soon as I see them inside, but outside the good bugs take care of them. But if you have them bad, you’ll need the big guns. Some kind of grade A pesticide (I use Killamite), or even a mild pesticide like you’d get at a nursery, to kill the main group. They’re easily disturbed and I have put fans and hairdryers on them as soon as they swarm. They won’t get on the leaves though. Then the sticky yellow cards. You can buy that stuff by the roll btw. Then focus on maintenance and prevention. Really good air circulation and replacement of fresh air in the tent is really important. You can mix up a mild dose of Neem oil in water and use it as a soil soak. Then allow them to dry out a bit before watering.
Mustard seed meal. I have fungus gnats bad on this run. It’s not in my house or I’d be pissed lol. This is good to use but not if you are in flower as it will provide nitrogen and you don’t want that. Once I harvest I’ll work the mustard seed meal into my soil and by the time I’m ready to plant they will be gone. I have tried DE and traps, neem and nothing works but this for me. I have had luck with rove beetles and other beneficial insects too.
Also if you’re growing in soil peroxide is going to destroy your microbes and fungal colonies so make sure you inoculate with some microbes after you do that but peroxide does work. I avoid it because I don’t like to kill off all of the microbes in my soil. For me fungus gnats are just a nuisance and never cause my plants any issues. I got them really bad this time too. The compost i top dressed with is where mine came from.
