My friend just got a 4x8 tent, 8 inch inline fan, 6 inch carbon filter fan, powered by 600 w of light, I seen the r recommended average watts is 900-1600 so what should I do? Close off half the tent but then have to worry abt airflow in that half awa well and finding something to split it in half idk
Ideally would add a second light. If that’s not an option right now you could still do a successful grow under the single 600. Just don’t plan on filling the whole tent. Light would do fine centered in there with 4 plants under it.
Is a 8 inch inline fan and 6 inch outline fine?
You really don’t need two fans. A simple and common method is to rig up your carbon filter and fan inside, preferably on the top of your tent with duct work leading out of the tent (if you can get that exhaust duct out of the room or nearby window that’s even better). Open up the vents on the bottom of your tent and that will work as a passive intake, the fan will be pushing air out, resulting in fresh air being sucked in, creating your air exchange.
Some people wait to hook up their carbon filter until they get into flowering, just to prolong the life of the carbon. That’s up to the grower.
Depending on the room where you’re growing and if light leaks are a concern, instead of using the vents you can keep them closed and use the bottom duct ports. Some ducting with a couple bends will keep the light out. Here’s a few pics to show the setup, smaller tent than yours but same idea:
In this example it exhausts out of a nearby window, but if that’s not possible it’s not completely necessary. Our goal is to avoid stagnant air by maintaining frequent air exchange.
Okay so would 600 w be enough for a 4x4
Yes, a single 600 should work great and be sufficient for a 4x4.
With an asterisk * I mean notice that this grow light isn’t really 600W it’s just a name. A small label on the light has the real number.
Thats no good for a 4x4
This is more like it…
Solid point. Certain light brands can be misleading with the expected wattage.
What light do you have @Morganpost135 ?
2 viparspetra 300 w lights
It depends which ones, if they’re the blurples they’re 130 true watts each and say they can flower a 1.5x1.5’ area.
If they’re the XS 3000 model it looks like those are actually true 300w full spectrum lights and two in a 4x4 should be good.
If you have the blurples and they’re unused I would recommend returning them. If that’s the case and you need an inexpensive alternative check out Szhlux. @Growdoc uses them, he grows fire and speaks highly on those lights. Probably could get away with just this in a 4x4:
I grow in a 4 X 8 space and normally run 3 plants at 750 watts. I find it more convenient for moving fans around etc. Assuming quality lights, you ought to get decent yields with 600 watts.
The 640 would be great, I run it in my veg tent. You can get them well under 300. The 840 is 359 on Scamazon. I run it in my big flower room. Love them so far, and couldn’t bitch if they burned out tomorrow!![]()
The xs 3000 is it! We plan on only using half the 4x8 tent due to only having 600w of light, any opinions? Should I continue the idea of using half of it instead of the full thing bc I don’t have any more light?
You could add more later if you want to fill it up.
That’s what I would do, half ish of the tent, if it extends a bit past that you’ll still be good!
It’ll be nice to have space in there to work with and move stuff around as needed. Sounds like you guys have more than enough to get started and be successful.
Thank you guys for the help
