I have one plant left I had planned to harvest this coming weekend. In the middle of the week we are supposed to have one morning get briefly below freezing. Will this harm the flowers? Should I harvest early? Just so you know, bringing the plant indoors is not an option. Thanks.
Freezing will ruin the plant. Think frozen lettuce.
Ok. That sounds right, but when researching I saw people with their buds covered in snow. I guess I have a busy next couple of nights. Only one morning at 31 degrees predicted…. couldn’t just go a couple more days.
I had to harvest my plant early because it snowed the very next day so it’s in my shed wrapped and screamed and tarp upside down it’s like three plants all wrapped together I don’t know if it’s going to turn out or not cuz it weather’s been really cold lately like 34° and stuff so I don’t know if it’s going to turn out I hope so cuz it’s some really good weed I took a piece off early before all that and hung it up the dry and it’s great but I’m afraid the rest of it won’t turn out what do you think
I hope someone will answer this for you. I’m new to this endeavour, so I have more questions than answers.
Hi there. It is not ideal for the ladies. The problem is mold when the temps are higher in the day. The trichs could freeze and break off. That would be a bummer. Some outdoor growers will chime in soon.
These plants are really stronger then most would be believe. Although frost temps are not ideal but i have grown through frost just fine. As long as it heats up throughout the day. I always like to wait until a good frost hits before i chop, as long as im in the harvest window. Here in ny i know a few guys that still got girls out. But not for much longer…try finding faster flowering strains if you can
cold and wet together are really bad. Like @Poseidon1 says enough heat to dry in the day… thatll be the difference. Check them early morning and shake the water off them if there’s dew. Mine just survived three frosts and I cut em when overnight rain was predicted. Best I could do
I just like it triggers the purple in a intense way. The moring dew can always be dangerous in late flower. Good advice on shaking em a bit.
I want a green house, real bad. I think it would get me another week
Dude a green house would get you another few months! Depending on location of course :))
I was basing my comment on the freeze we had coming which happened last night.
20 Degrees. That’s more than a light frost.
Wow…20 degrees is def different story.
Just walked around the yard…everything is dead except a few things like sage, strawberries that survive nearly anything.
Can you cover them with say sheet?
You know I tried that with a few plants one year and they froze worse than the uncovered ones. Sometimes loss of air movement makes freezing worse. Citrus farms use fans to move air to avoid freezing in certain conditions. Perhaps if the cover extended all the way to the ground so as to let the warmth in the ground be trapped inside it would work. Didn’t work for me tho.
I have never tried. I do like to wait for frost if i can but never been to the point they were not ready. I try to go indicas during outdoor grow bc they can withstand cold better then a sativa and finish faster.
Thanks for all the replies. I wanted to wait until the weekend to have more time to harvest instead of working late on them after I get home from work. In the end, because it was predicted to get down to 29-31 degrees for two mornings in a row, depending upon weather site, I decided to go ahead and harvest. In the end the lowest temperature I saw was 39 degrees. I’m up on a mountain, so often times the cooler temperatures are in the valley below us. At least I have my weekend free now for other chores and a bit of fun.
29 ° F here i just harvested a couple of plants before the Cold, they were ready and had stopped growing, But I’m not convinced about leaving plant’s in extreme Cold, I have a long outdoor season so I’m always finished before the frost hits! But I did leave a couple of hanging Buds just to see the effects
Snow predicted here Sunday/Monday. Everyone is getting chopped, washed and hung Saturday.
