Light frost this morning

Good morning everyone. Since my one indoor plant turned male after entering the flowing stage, I got a little discouraged. 7 months down the drain. I didn’t give up and now that it is legal to grow in MN, I have 3 outdoor plants. They are in a shed with no roof. My question is we had a light frost this morning. Usually I cover the shed and the cola sticking out with a box and heavy white plastic. It wasn’t supposed to freeze last night. The top cola had moisture, I didn’t see any frost. I’m wondering if I shouldn’t just harvest with the temperatures that are ahead. I will post pictures and any input is welcome.

Too early from these eyes. Soft frost wont killem but hard will. Covering with that tarp when calling for the temp dips can extend the ripening time. If she has color traits they will explode now. Pulling early can be a total waste of the flowers as they wont be in thc producing window. Be racy and paranoid driven high. Just my thoughts on frost in general. Tomatoes hate it also.

I agree, a soft frost won’t kill a big old plant. It just makes them hurry up with those trichomes.

Thanks for the input. I bought a microscope and ya at 300 times magnification I can finally see. I had the wife look also because I’m colorblind. The trichomes are clear. My buddy talked me into harvesting a few bottom branches. I wish I wouldn’t of because after getting the microscope I checked those trichomes and they were clear also. Looks like we dip to 28 on Tuesday. With 2 other days looking like Frost also. The shed they are in is insulated. Just no roof.

They updated the forecast. 80 for today then we start a cold snap. Then back to some 70s in after that.

A small frost you’ll be fine. Hang on a few more days if you can let those buds finish up. Good luck :v:

Sounds good to me. I’ll cover at nights. I was worried about them getting stunted due to the low highs. First grow outside. So of course I’m excited! I’ll pay attention to the trichomes and fellow growers here. Even though I don’t know you all, I believe in family. We are a family of growers and I’ve not heard or seen a bad word from ANYONE in the short year I’ve been here.

Will show what a few mornings of 28 f make a plant do once they warm up in the sun, don’t fret too much they are hardy plants, my biggest suggestion is watch for Bud rot during these damp and chilly nights

I didn’t harvest the cola because hairs were not turned. That’s what I was told to do. Harvest when hairs turn. I found out with the microscope that is a false statement. Although I thought it was the strain itself, not temperature that helped that. So waiting for the trichomes on that to turn also before finishing. Lmao probably get a few jibs outta it. I call it my practice plant now. I will watch for that. I open the door in the morning to allow more morning to afternoon sun in.

:+1: I have a Sirrius Black that is very dark purple change coming on I look at them right now in the back yard and they are not happy right now but hoping the warmth of sun makes them perk up, still Some white hairs here also but lot of brown/orange ones also but trich’s tell me I am close.

Right. I notice that also with a grow down the road. They look sad on the frosty mornings as they don’t cover at all. No idea who it is. Just seen the plants when I drive by. I hope they get happy for you!

So let me ask you this. I’m experimenting and experiencing this because I listened to a friend and not science and harvested some early with clear trichomes. Hairs were dried. So he said whack the whole plant. (thankfully I didn’t) He says the trichomes will ripen during the curing process. I find that hard to believe. And this little experiment will tell me the outcome of that. What’s your thoughts and experiences with this?

They do ripen some but if cut to early its still to early, we like ours with a few amber showing not many, cloudy is our go, and can deffintly tell when we go to long, I grow mainly Indica dominate photos. To much amber and you better forget about doing anything.

Cant speak to science in it, because i havent researched that aspect very much. Going off of my own experience, ive seen a slight change after checking tricomes after theyve cured for a bit in some but not all, could just be different light or my eyes lol. Nothing crazy tho so if you chopped while they were all clear i wouldnt expect much of a difference on that part. But heres a handy terpene graph of change during cure

I am doing well. My dog is dying of lymphoma so that sucks. Otherwise cannot complain. Kids are getting older, my greenhouse is finally up. This has been one of the most favorable falls for Seattle weather growing. So loving the buds this year. Always playing with seeds. I think I have officially in my head switch to seed grower over bud grower. It is as much fun as breeding fish. My Axolotls spawned big time last week, they are starting to hatch and free swim. Started growing some coffee when I found out the Seattle zoo has coffee plants as one of their most common plants in the zoo displays. They sell off the beans as zoo coffee every year. Not buying a roaster/toaster thingy until I have more coffee beans than canna beans. lol

How have you been? The grandkids doing well.? I know you moved to be closer. I bet you miss your weed bunker. That is still hands down the neatest grow setup I have ever seen on here. You still composting w the flys? I won’t worry until you start selling dry fly flour cannabis cookies. Ha. Anyway, happy growing and warm winter to you my old friend from the other site.

You still working with that Frankenstein strain? If I remember correctly you bred with it? Are you still growing it? It has been on my mind for a while, that strain would be fun to work with.
