I planted a random cannabis seed that germinated on February 18th, unaware of how to grow it.
I think I stunted her growth by keeping her in a small pot on my porch with insufficient sunlight for the first few weeks.
After some research, I figured out what week I was on and transferred her to a larger pot. I relocated her to the center of a field for full sun (zone 9b) and applied a fertilizer (3-1-2) with the first watering of week 6. She grew quite a bit during that week
This week marks week 8. I applied a new fertilizer (2-6-4) three days ago and shes starting to smell when i approach her but i have no clue if this is going well or not.
Anyways, here are some pictures from this morning. How is she doing? Am I in trouble? Am I doing okay so far? Any help would be appreciated.
Welcome home!!
First off, what you have been doing is working. Even the lower fans are still green so Kudos on getting this far…
Here are some observations based on typical cannabis related topics.
Soil - as said what you have been doing is working but that soil does not look cannabis friendly. Looks like it has sand or clay in it and cannabis likes a flood to drought watering routine and the soil needs to be able to provide oxygen to the roots. Most of us in soil use added perlite for the extra drainage needed.
Water - cannabis like a 6.2-6.8 pH range for proper nutrient uptake in soil.
Feeding - not sure of the brand of nutes, cannabis does not like time released. Some of us use synthetic (salt based) nutes and will need to flush at some point throughout the grow to wash the salts out. Salt build up can lock your plant out of being able to consume nutes that are present in the soil. Cannabis like a bit more N or Nitrogen in the veg phase and still need it once in flower but the need drops and the need for more P & K Phos and Potassium goes up in flower so the 2-6-4 you mentioned is good for flower
Calcium and Magnesium is also very important and alot of us measure both our pH and PPM’s when feeding. She should be at about 800-1000 ppms and this is checked by the run off and if it is low, it is time to feed.
Transplanting - yes when in too small a pot they get rootbound. Some start in a solo and once the fans are past the rim they transplant into the “forever” home and others like me when I was still using soil, I would transplant from solo to 3 qt to 3 gallon to 10 gallon - 4 homes total
First of all, thank you for your response, I appreciate you taking the time to write all of that out.
I just found the soil ph tests, I will be working on that and adding some perlite this weekend. It’s just some swamp soil from my backyard at the moment.
The ferts i used both times were liquid concentrates. I was wondering if i should have flushed it before starting the bloom fert but i was kinda freaking out thinking I just needed to get it started since i was seeing the growth and that’s what drew me here.
I never wanted to transplant, I’ve never had good luck doing it with vegetables so i wemt ahead to a giant pot to keep from disturbing the roots at all. If I do this again I’ll be starting them in their forever pots.
It looks like I’ve got some research to do on calcium and mangnesium now.
you can ping me if you have a question and cannot find an answer or find 5 different answers to the same question. the @sign in front of someones name will ping them like so @Charlomack and when I see it, I will hop in and see wassup.
Swamp soil huh? Must have some good $hit in it. Your girl looks very happy.
If you wanted to ever purchase some good cannabis friendly soil there are many good options. Google is your friend but Fox Farms, Coast of Maine, Roots, Indacanja, Purple Cow to name a few I see soil growers using are all good options.
Cal/Mag is usually a 1-0-0 product
and there are many good products out there by various nutrient manufacturers.
Hi @Charlomack , Your plant looks great!! Very healthy.
Welcome to the forum. It’s a great place for knowledge. And very friendly people.
I would love to follow along on your journey if that’s okay.
One thing that kid of struck me, and I’m probably wrong here, but is there any chance that your baby got pollinated? The bud clusters look a bit seedy.
Can you get some clearer shots of the buds and Calyx?
Thanks for posting.
Are you saying they look like they’re where they should be for week 8? I haven’t got my hopes up yet, I’m paranoid I’m always doing something wrong
Photo plants change with the amount of sun light hours. You could be in the 3rd week and start to flower if the sun light hours drop. My photos will veg for about 12-14 weeks before it starts to flower.
@David1974 i probably could have been more specific i guess that was pretty vauge lol, and for that i apologize. By random i meant it came from an 1/8th from the dispensary, i assume medical marijuana in florida uses a lot of autoflower for quick yields. I just dont know what strain it was i could narrow it down and its most likely svf kush or kingdom chem those two are in my order pretty regularly but idk.
Oooooh good to know, here i was thinking the lower thc content and their ability to never run out of those bottom tier strains, i had just assumed autoflower would be the way they kept the cheap weed in stock. Good to know thank you. We’ll see what happens with Betty Buddington.
My understanding is you can turn a clone to 12/12 light hours almost immediately after you plant the clone in soil. So Allot of growers grow using the SOG method.
