First Timer - GSCE

I’m not sure how much I’ll get to update this, but I’ll try to as often as possible…

This is my first entry at my first attempt of actually putting some attention and TLC into a grow. Always been a “hey those seeds you threw out are friggin growing!” type of thing. This is for personal and to save a good chunk of change (I’ll just say the nearest dispensary is reeeeeeeeeeally far) so spending a ton on a huge setup isn’t exactly in the plan.

I got some GSCE auto-fems a few weeks ago, because from what I’ve read, they are a great outdoor candidate and already have great resistance to molds and insects. Plus it’s ridiculously potent. So I’ve just been waiting for the rainy season to close up and we’ll, we’re pretty much there…

…And holy cow. I put this little girl in clean, fresh water approximately 6 days ago to start the process. Waited the full 72 until she looked like a little tadpole, the popped her in some Fox Farm potting soil right at 3 days ago, like, to the hour.

Last night, it was still just loose soil on the top. No surface breakage at all. That was at like midnight, when I last took a look and have her a little good night sip of water. This is only 7 hours later.

Close to exactly 6 days later, we’re off to the races. I’m excited to see how well she grows. Hopefully she’ll be ready to enjoy
by Halloween. Wish me luck!!!

Guess I miscalculated the rainy season over. I really thought she was going to take a hit. We had a week straight of sun and 90+ weather. Just got 6"+ in about 4 hours. My girl isn’t hurt, though. She got less water than I give her all day, and what’s better than nature’s own supply. So with the sun gone probably all afternoon, and the relative humidity up as well, I’m probably going to hold off watering her until I check on her in the morning. Just ready for that seed membrane to fall off so she can really open up.

Not sure why my last post just put a weird link for the picture, but just click and that’s where she’s at half way through day 2.

Welcome, I’m in Memphis and can vouch for the strange weather. Bad thing is now we have to reason with the hurricane season. JB. Cat

I know what you mean. I’ve lived in the same area my whole life and usually it’s pretty wet thru may and not this far into June. And when Hurricane season ramps up, we really don’t get many storms, UNLESS it’s a tropical disturbance. Otherwise, it’s maybe every few weeks some rain will come by, but we had one hot week, then came a massive downpour today, and has still been going off and on, with more forecast for the next few days.

Still waiting on this membrane to break. It doesn’t look to be hurting anything, but this is day 3 of sprout and I don’t want it to overwork itself so early trying to open up. Should I try to cut it through the middle between the leaves with some fine trimmers? Or should I just let it keep going. Any and all advice is welcome and appreciated!!!

Spray it with water, let it soak for a bit to soften the membrane then carefully remove it with a toothpick or something similar

Will definitely get my fine spectacles and do my best. My wife is in the medical field so she has a slightly steadier hand. I was hoping that watering it would more or less lube it so that it would slide off on its own. Guess I’ll have to get surgical. Thanks!

It shouldn’t take much to slide it off once it’s softened

I hope not. This is my 3rd attempt with this particular seed strain. First one never popped in water. 2nd made it in the dirt and sprouted, but withered away virtually overnight. I’m really not wanting to go indoor. This trial and error crap is for the birds! Still exciting, though.

I hope took the girl popped in water and stuffed her in the dirt?

Sure did. Soaked her a solid 72hrs and she had a tail about 3 times as long as the seed itself.

Tried tweezers but it wanted to pull the whole seedling. Ever so carefully used these to make tiny snips until all the way through the membrane. Tomorrow she should open up really well.

The seed membrane not breaking for 3 days did a little number on her first leaves, but she sure opened up. I don’t think I should really worry, but just keep a close eye. I’m really hoping those stunted first couple of days didn’t exhaust her, and that she makes an “I’m finally free and this sun feels great!” type of recovery. Any suggestions or advice is welcome!!

What looks like a nick in one of the leaves is where it didn’t form properly, due to being stuck in the membrane. I was very careful not to touch them when making the cut last night to open it up.

She’ll be good! She looks healthy despite the membrane being stuck

Thanks for the support!!! I hope you don’t mind, but I checked your stuff out and you have got some awesome setups and beautiful girls! Finally have some good sun here, and she is sooooaking iiiiit uuuuuup. A plants lifecycle, not just cannabis, is a pretty amazing thing.

Thanks for the comps. This plant is so much fun to grow! And the people in this forum got me to where I am. You’ll be there in no time.
