First time growing need help

I ordered 5 autoflowering northern lights & soaked them overnight, they all sprouted little tails, I planted all of them in Root Riot starter cubes, placed them in trays on a heating pad set to 75• put a clear dome over them, under a 24 watt compact fluorescent…after a week 2 had grown pretty good, but were very tall for their size…my buddy told me they were reaching & I needed to lower the light, & slow down on the watering so the roots would get bigger. After a week of this new arrangement it’s obvious that they didn’t like it & are dead. I guess my question is what did I do wrong? Did lowering the light kill them?

@Micah11 sounds like you were doing fine until you listened to your buddy. Personally for the next time just pop 1 seed, leave your light in its original position before you moved it and let nature take over. Any growth can be tailored once your babies are out of the ground and doing well. On another note seedlings don’t need a great deal of water either. Oh and welcome to a great forum.

@WVGROWER start your own post and the help you need will be along directly. It gets confusing with 2 people looking for answers on the one post. You could also start your own grow journal, that let’s people look into what you’ve done so far and help with any corrections. Good luck and happy growing

A 24w cfl light will not kill the seedlings on it’s own. If a seedling is getting tall and leggy they DO need more light. I would suggest getting a few more cfls and get them in the 5500k color spectrum. Water or soak your starting cubes and they leave them be with water. Just keep the dome misted(not the plants) and the temperature in the high 70’s.

Whenever I use a cfl light it’s always around 8 to 12 inches away from the plant. With the heat mat going, make sure you dont cook them if they are domed, that’s easy to do.

Ok so they need more light right? I have a pair of Mars Hydro lights that are doing nothing in an 8x5 grow tent, I found 3 seeds in a batch of bud & planted them and they are doing the same thing. Growing really tall really fast. Should I move them under the big light?

Yes I would. I would keep it around 30 inches above the seedlings. If they still continue to stretch then lower it a couple inches

Thanks ol buddy

So I moved them under my big light & they seem to be doing really well other than this morning when I went to check on them I saw that one had fallen over. Still looks health, just looks like the stem isn’t big enough to support the weight of it. Any suggestions? My friend told me that they needed more air flow to make them wave back & forth a bit.

Grab a piece of wire and stand it back up. To avoid this in the future, it’s good to get a small fan for some sort of air movement. The plant will automatically stiffen its stalk do this. But for now, just get a small stake and tie it up. Or fill the pot to the top with more soil/coco

Damn Buddy, looks like your lights need to be lowered…

Can you or someone else tell me if this is a male plant? image

Would you say that these are a indica dominate plants? These are two weeks old & seem to be doing good. I found the seeds in a batch of good smoke but I have no idea what kind it was

The one up front looks to be heavier leaning toward an indica then the back one. See how the fan leaf fingers overlap each other on the front plant? And then on the back plant you can see a little space between them? This is called phenotypes. And even though the seeds may be from the same plant, each one could have a more dominant side then the other.

MALEEEEEEEE FOR SURE jerk it up or get it quarantined

Ok so they’ve been under the big lights for two weeks so far with the light just on the vegetating grow. 24/7. At what point should I switch the bloom on & start cycling dark stages?

I always have dark stages. I would definitely turn both switches on and have the light at around 24 inches. Go to an 18/6 cycle
