Water Update! TL;DR - I gave em 1.25gal of filtered tap water with ~.5 eggshells of calcium (yes, eggshells is a measurement in my house haha), 60ml organic coconut water, and a small drizzle of honey (~.5-1ml). I make the cal solution from eggshells, so that’s how I measure. Explanation below.
Girls were thirsty last night, so I decided to water them today. Kush the Bush got a little less than the other two, as she seemed to not be as in need. Split was probably something like 30%WWCBD/30%WC/25%KCBD/10%Foliar/5%WWCBDClone As, I mentioned in my last update, I added the second half of the first batch of cal solution to the feed, as well as about 60ml (4 Tbsp.) of organic coconut water.
I only added 60ml (the lowest of the feed ratings I found for it at ~15ml/l. I am using a 1gal sprayer, so I just went based on a gallon, but obviously used probably 5-6L) due to not wanting to overfeed the plants. They seem to be okay on most macros, just needing more calmag. However, coconut water has great amino acids, enzymes, etc., so I wanted to get those in. I also added 1 small drizzle of raw, unfiltered honey from a local farmer. Added warm water to the top of the sprayer, and shook it up.
As a rule of thumb, I always foliar spray my girls when I water them. They get most of their water in nature from the sky, and it’s good for them to get “rained” on, imo. So, that’s why I included a small percentage of the watering to foliar. Also, foliar spraying aminos and calcium shouldn’t harm them at all, and so far they’ve seemed to really love it. The, first time I foliar sprayed with the cal solution, they seemed to turn up at it a bit to begin with, which I attributed to the vinegar in the solution. I’m mixing up a new batch, since I’ve now used up the last of the old one. For the first batch, I put the dried, powdered eggshells into the glass, and added probably a half cup of RO water before adding some vinegar to the solution and letting it go. I then proceeded to add more vinegar until (several days) I got to the day that I needed to add it, and so I filtered it through a coffee filter, and added half to my sprayer. Realizing that I needed to not dilute the vinegar with water this round, and that I probably had only extracted a small portion of the available calcium from the eggshells I was using, I poured undiluted vinegar deep over what remained of the first batch of eggshells. Today, this batch looks like this:
What I take from doing this experiment is that the material in the green box is the leftover layer from eggshells that have been dissolved. The more white, chunky layer on the bottom is still rich with calcium to be extracted. Because it still has calcium, it must be more dense, and so sinks to the bottom. This leads me to having to do this, every once in a while:
This puts fresh vinegar in contact with fresh eggshells for dissolving. This has been going for weeks now, and it was 3 whole eggshells, and now we’re up to around 1/4-1/2 gallon of vinegar to dissolve it entirely. It takes forever! But, it does seem to work like a charm, these girls are really starting to darken up and lose their yellow leaf spots, and purple stalks.
This calcium addition is just to make sure we get out of the deficient range, and hopefully I can just go into maintenance mode and add a small amount to every watering as I go.
WHEW
Now, on to the plants…finally…
