First time grower - Since starting this plant a month ago I have had a lot of ups and downs…more downs than ups actually. I knew this would happen and it has been a learning experience but I believe there is still something wrong with the plant. I know it should be a lot bigger but I stuffed up a lot in the first few weeks with the watering as I was overwatering. I now only water every 3 or 4 days and the plant has taken off since I started that but the leaves look awful and I don’t know what I am doing wrong.
The water I use has a PH of around 6.2. The soil is one we bought that contains all the nutrients needed until flowering. The humidity was around 85% but I have reduced it to around 70%. The temp is around 26 C (79 F) through the day and gets down to around 23-25 C (73 - 77 F) at night. I have 2 fans operating and intake and outtake exhaust. Light is a Spider Farmer 4000 dimmed to halfway. 1.2 x 1.2 x 200cm tent and pot is 40 litre (10.5 gal)
2 days ago I also topped the plant as it was and actually still is very thickly bunched together so I wanted it to spread out more so the light could reach other areas.
I have included 2 photos and hope someone can tell me how I can fix my baby. Just one more thing my sister is also growing her own plant with the exact specifications as I listed here except hers is in a grow tent outside under a lean to and her plant look awesome. We are growing different seeds though.
She is also probably pretty hungry. You need to do a run noff test and check your ph and TDS (total dissolved solids) to know if you are feeding correctly.
@Cazz you got some stellar growers chiming in up there so I’ll just say High!!
One thought though is any changes you make will only be noticeable in your new growth. Damaged leaves stay that way until they either die and fall off or you pluck them (not now) eyesores outta there lol.
Yes I’d say you are right. I have since raised the light to sit about 30 inches above the plant…it was about half of that before. Thanks for your reply.
From what we were lead to believe there should be enough nutrients in the soil which is Super Soil aka Living Soil. We bought most of the things needed for testing and growing but looks like we forgot something to measure the TDS. Will look into that.
I was overwatering for the first few weeks and now I only water every 3 to 4 days. It looks dry but underneath it is still quite moist. The information I have been finding seems to indicate that the plant needs time to dry out otherwise it can be detrimental to its health. There are so many different opinions when it comes to watering and can be very confusing. I am just trying to fumble my way through.
I know from the picture it looks like I only water around the base but I do water the whole pot. For some reason that area around the plant is the last place to dry out.
You know I never thought of that. For some reason I thought the leaves might improve as conditions improve but I guess it just goes to show I am not much of a gardener. What a learning experience this has all turned into but it is fun at the same time. I actually can’t wait to try again so I can do better the next time. (fingers crossed lol)
Thanks for the welcome. I am using Super Soil aka Living Soil. And yes the plant is very very tightly bunched. I have since raised the light a lot so hopefully that will help a lot with my problems.
I was adviced to go with the photo rather than auto which was really great advice as it turns out. Gave us more room to learn as we went along. I would love to clean her up a bit but I wasn’t sure if I could do that at this stage. Will that not cause stress to the plant if I cut off too much of the damaged foliage?
She looks dry I know but beneath the surface it is quite moist. Unless all the nutrients have been used up (soil is Super Soil aka Living Soil) she shouldn’t be hungry but I intend to check into something to test that with. We thought we had bought all the equipment needed but I guess we missed something to test the TDS.
