I am just about to harvest my first ever autos…also outside. Good luck.
Hi newcomer & welcome. They look good and right where they should be. For me and where I live it’s better to grow autos or photos in late fall thru Jan-Feb. I’m not dealing with these insane temps & humidity then. If I grow anything in spring thru late summer bud rot is guaranteed.
I was lookin thru your post on OG Kush not flowering. I just started to grow inside this year. I had 4 harvests and they were all excellent. 2 photos & 2 autos. My OG Kush had nice big tight buds and the others were nice as well. If & when you have time take a breeze thru and see the results with what I had as far as lighting and grow boxes. I’m perfectly happy with the way they all turned out. The topic isn’t that long. I started it in March-June.First time growin inside. Good luck with your autos and I’ll be following along @Senior_Novice

Great log MH!
Coincidentally i just bought some Purle Haze seed during the 30% off sale. Hell, i dont even need them. ![]()
Ive got 4 Northern Lights Auto getting harvested tomorrow, and my OG Kush that should be flowering soon.
I also have 2 Quick Ones and a North Thunderfuck 2-3 weeks from chop. lol
Oh, and my 3 outside auto’s.
I dont even smoke that much, i just like growing stuff. ![]()
I hope my Kush looks half as good as yours looked!
Thanks for sharing!
Lookin good @David1974 ![]()
Thanks for the compliment and stopin by. I’m like you on seeds. I have more than I need. Probably won’t buy anymore for a long time.
I’ve cut way way back on smoking also but like you I just like growin them mostly. Every grow is different. That LSD auto I grew was under a 100w light. It was loaded with nice buds. And the OGK was under my 300W on 85% power on the flowering phase. No complaints.
Good luck with your upcoming harvest and with your OGK. I’m sure it will turn out just fine when she’s ready too.

I’ll shoot you a tag when I start my next grow in Nov. Have a good rest of your week. ![]()
Looking good…I just chopped my first two auto ever today.
There lookin good. Time to fatten them ladies up. ![]()
@Senior_Novice @Riskguy @David1974 I’m headed down a first time outdoor path with an auto and curious how it all worked out for you. From my limited research the odds are not in my favor but I’m hoping for your success and maybe a little optimism.
A little background. I cut my growing teeth on a 10 pack of ILGM Runtz autos. Of the 10, 3 didn’t pop, I drowned 3, and got 3 to harvest over a couple of years in a 2x2. All very different phenos. For No. 10, my fall plan was to veg it in the tent and move it outside to the porch to flower. I need the space in the tent but the primary motivation is to get a little more kick out of the final product. New grower and I’ve made my indoor mistakes to kill potency and flavor but I’ve done better with other genetics in the meantime. So here is Runtz No.10.
4 weeks old today, enough pistils and a convenient time to begin the flower countdown. I think this is the best of the lot with regard to structure, nice and open. I’ve begun to take it outside for morning coffee and smoke. Still a bit hot here so when I get hot we go in. We have our best temps and humidity for flowering ahead so I’m hopeful with regard to weather. What I lose sleep over is the thought of a grasshopper chewing off a bud just for grins (fate of a past spring garden that drove me inside, that and the prospect of prosecution). I have my eye on one of those small walk in greenhouses to help the cause. Any outdoor traps I should avoid (like maybe small walk in greenhouses)? Can you help me out here, tell me you grew some killer bud and everything is going to be alright.
@Pelageo I’ve never really had a grasshopper problem. I see allot of them but my plants are never damaged. So I dint worry about them. I do spray with lost coast plant therapy but I dint believe that kills but maybe the smell keeps them off my plants.
As far as my autos went i think I did quite well. For how hard I tried. I really just started them inside for a week when they popped out of the soil and shed their helmet i put them immediately in the ground. I gave them 2 gallons of water about 4 different times and fed them flower feed once. The rest mother nature did! (They were not in pots they were in the ground) a couple only half filled a gallon glass jar and a few that totally filled 2 jars. Royal runtz was my biggest producer followed by royal special queen.
Just caught up on your grow journal. Killing it with the outdoor. Unfortunately I live in a state where they still frown on old men having too much fun in the outdoor garden. Heard a lot of good comments on the lost coast therapy, will keep my eyes out for some. Thanks.
@Pelageo My 4 autos did pretty god…low yield (compared to photos) but really good smoke. I averaged just over 3 oz per plant…but one was a runt with only two ounces. They were my first autos…I am going to try a few indooors with better genetiocs to see if I can getthe yeild up…I am dropping seeds in the morning.
Pests are always an issue outdoor, but I do not have an issue with grasshoppers. Some people use netting…also help shade plants in hot climates.
I will likely do just Autos outside next year to facilitate a late summer trip. Gotta love the qucik turnaround time.
We don’t sweat grasshoppers to much in western Washington, but slugs can be a problem. I started mine 7/7 outside in 3 gallon grow bags with Fox Farms soil.
They get Gen Hydro Flora series nutes at medium level.
These pics were last week before i moved them to my grow tent due to visitors arriving that arent plant friendly.
Im going to leave them in the tent until they finish since after this week wet weather is moving in.
I am inspired. Somehow I knew I was asking the right folks. @Riskguy good smoke is the goal, I’d be thrilled with 3 oz of something different from what I got indoors. With the same goal in mind, I’m doing my first coco grow in the tent. Really need one of these to hit, I’m desperate to get off the mids train. Back to the outdoor, I want to try this porch greenhouse but was going to modify it with some netting to combat heat for the time being.
@Senior_Novice those are looking very healthy, would be most proud of that harvest I wish you well in beating the moisture. In my short growing life I’ve already sent way too many main colas to the vegetable compost pile.
Growing outdoors is just part of the game. I’ve lost entire plants before. Was away for a few days and boom the bud rot was quick. The dew here in the morning right now is horrible. It concerns me more than any pest that’s for sure
Not to keep ragging on the genetics but another trait I would like to avoid on the next seed run are the big fat foxtailing colas I’ve seen on every one of these Runtz autos brought to harvest. Not helping the cause. I’m encouraged by the one I just moved outdoors, scattered branch buds and a nice stretchy top. It is early but it is taking to the sun very well and we are in our dry period-our fall colors are coming out-dead vegetation from drought. I have hope.
Wanted to offer my own words of encouragement to the next grower wondering if a late season outdoor auto is worth the effort. Look what the sun grew.
This is more a hybrid effort since I moved it about freely to the most favorable available environment but can say the flowers never saw another LED light after first bloom. I’m in zone 8a and we had a good fall growing season, daily highs in the 80-90 range, lows in the 60s, not much humidity. Surprisingly, not many bugs either, from drought I suppose. I did find a few aphids last week and harvested with a bud wash yesterday. Early samples didn’t blow me away but it looks good hanging.
On another note, the fold up greenhouse was a total bust. Two nights early in flower and way too much humidity. Don’t roll the dice on that one. My best piece of equipment for this grow was a 2x4 plastic net tent fashioned from tent poles and scrap.
Happy growing all.
