I have 3 Crystal plants that are doing well. 7 feet tall and 6 feet wide. Started budding a couple 3 weeks ago. I’ve been feeding them with the ILGM flowering fertilizer once a week. My question is how often should I be feeding them? I feel I should be doing it more often, but do not want to burn them. They are some strong girls
As good as they look, I would just continue per schedule! Nice lookin monsters!!!
Thanks for the response. As the buds thicken, just don’t want to f’up. The other problem is if I can see into the future is supporting the weight of the branches. Thought about tying them together so they can’t flop.
Leaf tips will start burning if they are fed to much.
Nice huge plants you have.
They are in the ground so can get some nutrients from the soil. However, cannabis are heavy feeders and can take a lot of nutrients, much more than other plants (including citrus and roses and they use a lot of nutrients), so there’s very little chance of you overfeeding them. In addition to that, your plants are big so you can add lots of fertilizer and it will be taken up right through the entire plant. Small plants in pots are more likely to suffer from fertilizer burn if you overdose them but big plants in a garden can suck up nutrients all day long.
Plants outdoors get exposed to wind and that causes the plants to put more spicules (small fibers) in the branches to make them stronger. Unless the branches actually start to bend down with the weight of the flowers, do not stake them up.
Do not tie branches together either. You want good airflow through the plants to reduce fungal infections, so never tie them into a bunch.
If you are really concerned, put some stakes in the ground and wrap a wire or plastic mesh fence around the outside of the plants. (Use 4-6 inch square mesh). The branches will droop down and rest on the mesh but the plants will still have good airflow.
Thanks so much for the advice. I did have one branch snap off in the wind awhile ago.
After that I have a bench that supports the lower branches and a 3 foot high fence on the other side. It’s been a remarkably breezy year, hence the fence. I’ll start feeding them a bit more. Sounds like it should be safe.
Question: I know the buds need light to grow. Down inside the sunlight doesn’t penetrate as much. Is it recommended to start picking the larger leaves to allow more light in or is that just a rumor without validation?
Opps. I’m a bit dyslexic. I thought I read the title as breastfeeding I kind of got excited
Whoooaa, easy there @Lostgirl , don’t blow a gasket! Lmao
These are still in the developmental stage. Give em a month and they might be lip smacking good. Time will tell.
Dying… once again. Thanks. Your the funnest! ![]()
There’s some big beautiful plants. Keep doing what you’re doing
Lost a branch yesterday due to high winds.
Definitely a concern!
Put shadecloth around the sides of the plant to break up the wind.
Here it is, a week or two from harvesting and I’m looking at some rain. I doesn’t rain here. Low humidity. How does it affect the buds?
These pictures are from about 2 weeks ago. It’s amazing how every three days or so I see significant changes in their look. Now they are getting really frosty looking, but my pics don’t give them a fair shake.
nice buds bro -
Thanks. They’re getting fat and frosty.
I still need to figure out how the rain effects the buds. I don’t expect much with where i’m at. I mean rain is usually a good thing, just not sure about this potential rain.
I will gently shake each branch to get excess water off the buds. You must be careful doing this.
High humidity and rain are not good for buds this season.
Last years grow. I’m late getting this out as a new season is here. My 3 plants yielded over 7 lbs. of bud. The high is very nice. I can’t seem to be able to smoke any more than about 1/3 -1/2 of a hooter at any one sitting. I like the fact that if I burn every 2-3 hours I get right there. I’m not an everyday user. I believe in taking at least a 2-3 day break because I think the effects are so much better. That being said, when I do smoke every day the high stays at a very good level without a lot of fall off. Probably why I like it. Folks that have tried it have nothing but good things to say. My problem is that I don’t sell weed and am not overly social. Most of my smoking buddies have past on so the question is what do I do with all this harvest? Can’t really donate it. I guess I’ll just smoke to my hearts content. Could be worse. As the fabulous fury freak brothers often stated, It’s much better to have dope without money than money and no dope. Not dope anymore, just medicinal value. Thank you ILGM for the successful grow. One note; I read somewhere that seeds should be planted about 3 feet apart. I’d say 6 feet if you have the space. My middle plants were robbed of valuable spreading room. Live and learn and use this valuable resource. Thanks, The Pupperdog
