So I thought it would be nice if we had a post where the old hats could weigh in on this topic. There are many, many options (fox farm, general hydro, jacks etc.) and I have learned the hard way they are NOT all created equal such as some that don’t have as much Nutrients as you would think. Sort of a “I prefer this line up” and “why”.
So that said, for you guys who have been doing this for a while, do you have a favorite line of nutrients and why?
I used Fox Farm Trio for a while. It works, but it is very salty and leads to a salt buildup by the time you get to flowering and needs a flush. A salt buildup will submarine your root zone pH.
I use Jack’s now. It is inexpensive, easy to use, effective, and not nearly as salty as the FF product.
Cultured Biologix. Its organic, I have tried the others and IMO nothing compares to the rock hard colas I get. Also I tagged you to my journal so you could see for yourself.
I use Jack’s as well. Simplicity is the name of the game for me. I have my cloner, seedlings, veg and flowering plants all on the same mix ratios. The cloner and seedlings I watered down the PPMs when I’m not feeling lazy.
I’ve made my own super soils then switched over to dry amendments from Dr Earth and Coast of Maine now I’m using grow dots and recharge all them work well
I started out using FF Trio following the published schedule.
I switched to Roots Organic Dry Nutrients a few grows ago.
The reason for the switch was my laziness. The dry nutrients are applied weekly and watered in using pH adjusted water.
I have seen no difference in my plants between the two.
Down to Earth! Clean and simple.
For outdoor growing, I really like dry amendments. Super easy. Scratch in then water. FF has dry amendments now. I’ve never had any issues with FF trio but I always water to 20% runoff so I’ve never had issues with salt buildup not have
I needed to flush.
I continue to experiment with other nutrient lines and watch what others here are using and seeing success. I also believe it depends on environment and grow conditions. Like I said, large outdoor grow, I need simplicity. Starting my trial

Mostly jacks for nutes, gh ph up and down as well as kool bloom, no particular brand of cal/mag or silica

I love Advanced Nutrients. I’ve been tempted so many times to try Jacks because of all the people here who use and suggest it but so far
I can’t bring myself to switch.
The pH perfect technology is one of the things I like the most about it. I still check the pH after mixing, and occasionally I’ll make a minor adjustment if needed, but 95% of the time it’s ready to go on it’s own.
Imo, all nutrients lines that are focused towards cannabis will work when used correctly. I favor jacks as well for the price and ease. When hellraiser did his comparison of jacks to the advanced nutrients line with clones for a fair test, The buds were equal but at a fraction of the cost. After that, is when i switched. Had good luck with fox farms too but was tired of the dreaded needed flushes. Never going back now. 120$ will feed countless grows, more then i could ever smoke.
I used Earth Dust until they went out of business (before that Dr. Earth). Now I am using Highway dust with some microbes.
Why? It it is a time saver. No mixing and no testing pH or TDS. Just add water and light and reamend every three weeks.
I am going to be moving my plants outdoor hopefully next month. The FF dry stuff looks interesting but confusing at the same time.
Are you using multiple dry stuff mixed together or a certain one for veg and a certain one for flowering?
So which jacks formulation are you using, there seem to be a lot
I use one nutrient throughout the whole grow and have zero issues. I primarily grow in a homemade “DIY” current culture system and I have tried several water soluble fertilizers and have run into Ph issues with all of them except for one. SuperNatural- Bloom Aqua! This is hands down the best nutrient I have found for Hydroponics. Completely stable and doesn’t drop ppm’s in the 2 weeks between resets. I also use Watermax in between resets. The few soil grows I have done, I use the Fox farm line of products.

I used Advanced Nutrients pH Perfect threesome, as well as some of their other products depending on where abouts I am in the grow…Rhino Skin, Voodoo Juice, Bud Candy, Big Bud, Sensi-Cal. It’s easy enough to mix up 5 gallons at a time, good for any phase of the grow. If I have young’uns, I can dilute it in a separate bucket for them.
Why? I don’t have to measure anything. I don’t have to water to runoff (I don’t even had pans under my pots!). It really suits my lazy growing style! Sure, people say it’s expensive, but $50 of nutes will last me an easy dozen or more plants to harvest, so is $4/plant expensive? Not in my books!
