Hello to all you smart helpers out there.
I have a new Vivosun 4x4 grow tent. I won’t be setting it up for a little while yet, but I want to have everything ready when I do. I need some recommendations for an exhaust system on a limited budget. I don’t need a filter, as I live out in the country and don’t have to worry about smell. I don’t need anything fancy, just adequate that will get the job done. I’ve never had a tent before, so I don’t know anything about its needs. Thanks, all.
6” exhaust for a 4x4. If sound isn’t important than get the cheapest one you can find. If you want something quiet AC Infinity fans barely make a noise at lower settings
6 inch exhaust fan would be your best choice and also Ipower brand on (ebay) is very affordable and a good product. A variable speed, some fans comes with them Some don’t is also needed.
Good luck
I agree with all . I have a 4X4 and it does the job.
Thank you much, bboy, Sound is not important, as this grow room is far in the back of the house and wouldn’t be heard, and smell does not reach the rest of the house either. So everyone is saying I need a 6" exhaust, so that’s what I’ll be looking for on Amazon.
@kellydans I never use ebay but I’ll bet I can find a cheap one on Amazon. Thanks for your recommendation, which is what everyone agrees with.
If you don’t need a filter, just go to your home improvement store and buy an inline duct fan and however much flexible ducting you’ll need.
Thanks, Deadhead. This is going to sound stupid probably, but where do I duct it to? I know absolutely nothing about this stuff.
Outside.
You can buy it on Amazon, but it pays to compare prices.
Oh, my goodness, now that’s a problem. I wouldn’t have the foggiest idea how to do that, there are no windows in that room.
Outside of the tent and or lung room
I could exhaust it just into the lung room? I could not exhaust it outside of the lung room, as it is built into a room that only has a big picture window. No windows that can be opened.
Is where mine goes, during my winter grows, I use no filter as it does not matter here, any that come in the house enjoy it, if we have a get together with family here I will add a filter until it is over. Mom use to smoke but not a big fan a grow smell.
My next grow will be in winter, and in the tent. The grow (lung) room is fairly decent size, 10’X20’. So, you’re saying that I can just exhaust it into that room? I can also open the door to that room which goes into a very large room, so stale air wouldn’t be a problem. Thanks for your input, Bentstick, I appreciate it very much. Like I said, this old gal knows nothing.
If not venting to the outside then be aware of high humidity in your home which is worse than a failed grow. Protect your home. Big dehumidifier might be needed.
Good point @Jaysittinback Which I do not have to worry about we are wood heated and in the basement humidity is very low during winters stays around 35-40% during cold season and about 55f with tents going.
In my opinion exhaust vent to the outside is always your best bet. When plants are flowering odor can get pretty loud . as mentioned. Enjoy you’re new venture.
Thanks, kellydans. In my case, venting to the outside is impossible, unless going through the wall, which is not an option for me. I’ve been growing in that room which is built into a big room that was a two-car garage connected to the house. I’ve not been using a tent. I’ve never had a problem with smell getting into the rest of the house. It stays in that grow room.
I understand everybody’s situation is a little different. I have heard people mention going up and venting into the attic. Sometimes I have had to get a little creative to make it happen. You will like your tent grow.
Hmm… venting into the ceiling(attic) sounds like an option, I’ll look into that, thanks kellydans. But I’m wondering, if you would then need a filtration system as the smell might get into the rest of the house through light fixtures and ceiling fans. They are not sealed.
I am currently venting my portable AC exhaust into my attic and let me tell you it is so loud on the outside of my house. I do not have a carbon filter yet so couldn’t say much about having one but just letting you know how my situation is
