DWC flush between water changes? Help?

My 2.5 gallon dwc. Using ff grow big and the hydro chart shows flushing every 2 weeks? I dont understand this. Reading about it and i see im supposed to change water 7-10 days, another site says biweekly. Do i need to flush every 2 weeks? If so, how is this achieved? Im at about 4 weeks on this one and pistols just started to appear. Water was recently changed on friday around noon. Also, it looks like i need to keep adding veg nutes when i start the tiger bloom nutes and for flower stage and i add both veg and bloom to my water til harvest?
In my pic you can see the curling of a few leaves. I was out of town for a week and thinking the plant could go a week without water change, seems i may have to change biweekly instead? Soon as i got home on Friday, I immediately changed water and the plant has since improved.

Thanks in advance for advice.

At solution change, run straight water with Hydroguard through your system for an hour, drain that then fill with your nutrient mix.

DWC is not a method I’d recommend as it is labor intensive compared to RDWC. Maintaining proper liquid height in the bucket is a big problem as plants will consume a gallon a day in flower. Plus, maintaining liquid temps below 70F is difficult and a chiller is a good idea.

Nutrients should contain N, P and K so follow the chart. TDS around 900 ppm is where you want to be and assume you have plenty of air headed into the bucket/s.

Well i dont have a rdwc system. I have a dwc bubble bucket, so thats what im asking about, and so far those are the only issues i have. Thanks

Yes; I read your post. Plan on adding water/nutes daily here shortly. Hopefully you have a decent PH and TDS meter as well.

So when i switch to ff tiger bloom nutes, do i continue with the ff big grow nutes reduced and add in the recommended amount of tiger bloom for the flower stage? My flower water will contain both big grow and tiger bloom?

Use all three: those are called your ‘base nutes’ and need to continue through flower. The others are not necessary but won’t hurt your plants: assuming you keep the TDS to around 900 ppm.

You might want to run Beastie Bloomz along with your other nutes right at transition for 3 weeks just to give the plant a P, K boost. (Necessary nutrients for building flower)

Will I be ok without the big bloom? I’ve only been using grow big up to this point? Otherwise I’ll have to go get some, pain in the ass as nothing close to me carries it.

You will definitely need all of the three base nutes. Amazon?

@Myfriendis410 i got a meter today and all is good except for reading EC. The Fox Farm hydro feeding chart says it needs to be 2.6-3.0 but the meter says 2000-2020. Am i to interpret that as 2.0? If so, is that too low? Do i need to figure out how to raise it or do i want it to be low (lower)?

EC is another way to measure TDS.

EC of 1.0 equals 500 ppm. So an EC of 2.5 is 1,250 ppm.

FF always recommends a higher salt content than the plants can handle. You should be around 1,000 ppm. Also, many of the grow schedules for FF use the 700 scale (imperial) as opposed to the US which uses 500 scale.

Thank you. I think I’m starting to understand now, all except the 500 and 700 scales. I’m not sure how to convert that in beginners terms.

I can’t use the recommended amounts as the tds is way up at 1250 before watering and at 1900 with run off. So I cut the recommended in half. It is still a little high. What in the schedule should I cut off that you say really isn’t needed to get the tds down? I am in soil and use the ff soil chart.

For me, DWC is no more labor intensive than any other. I top off my 5 gal buckets just once a week, even during flower. One thing tho, I dont concern myself with the water level, air gap for roots, or flushes. I run my buckets full and let the plant drink most of the nutrient solution before filling again. As plant stages change, my nutrient solution changes accordingly. The climate I live in allows me to run without any cooling techniques to keep rez temps below 70°f

success in DWC…
-no light leaks in the rez
-cleanliness, like brewery clean
-air, copious amounts pumped in to the rez and good air flow throughout the tent

Thats beautiful! I need to be following you. Looks like thats a photo? Im doing mine in 2.5 g bucket. First timer here.

Also i have a 5 gallon bucket ready in case i need to move it to bigger at some point.

Thanks much! My current grow is a photo, my last was GDP auto. If you have a 5 gallon ready, I would consider moving to it.

@SeaOhAreWhy am i gonna be able to save this one? Its my first attempt at hydro, dwc, and learning about nutrients. Im betting my basket is too small? Also my roots looking dingy. Ive only been using ff grow big and tiger bloom but i have big bloom coming today from Amazon. Im about 5 weeks in.

Get the nutes, ph, and temps in order and I believe it can be finished. May not be the biggest yielding, but should definitely produce some smoke for ya. Your roots look amazing, appear disease free, and are appropriate for the plants size. Without the larger basket, you will need to support the plant a little more is all. A couple of yo-yos should do the trick for that.

For future grows, have you considered using Jacks 321 and Kosher nutes? They work remarkably well in DWC and RDWC systems. No complex schedules to follow and so easy to use.

No, I’m new to this and the guy at the nursery told me I needed ff grow big and tiger bloom as a minimum. I’m not a scientist so I’d like this to be as simple as possible. I was originally thinking I use the grow big until flower, then switch to tiger bloom. That sounded like my speed . I had brain injury and need it to be simple as possible. If using those nutes are more beginner friendly then I’m definitely interested. So what exactly would you suggest for me? I totally appreciate your help!
