Does this set up sounds good?

Question from a fellow grower:

For personal medical needs I’m looking at a 2x4 tent and I’m considering 2 300w leds, one above each plant. My friend highly recommends just 600w hps. I feel that the heat might be an issue plus I’m a tech guy so kinda wanting some 2019 technology. And yes, I completely understand that 300w is not actual power consumption too

So to summarize.
2x4 tent.
Mother keeper tent (clones and seed)
2 300leds
2 plant
Soil

Any insight would be great. Thanks

What brand of lights are you looking to purchase? If you want 2019 technology @dbrn32 will be able to help narrow down the field of lighting options.

If there’s more room in your budget for lights you can get leds that would perform better, perhaps even that would perform along the lines of a 600 watt hps. Using the two small blurples isn’t bad though if you’re tight on money to spend.

Sounds like a runnable setup to me. You can do well under blurple lights! I have had some nice flowers on my autos under those lights. Yes a hps is gonna raise temps, hell even 2 blurple are gonna raise temps. If ya got a little scratch look into QB boards from Horticulture Lighting Group. I just made the switch and i am amazed at how cool the qb320 runs even when i have the driver dailed all the way up. Only at day 5 wk 1 so still a while to go to really see the differences in flowers and there are some seriously knowledgeable peeps on here that can and will walk you through a build or just general advice on the latest tech. Good luck and OnE LoVe

Hi. Not really sure at this point. I’ve been comparing a bunch online. Trying to stay budget friendly but also don’t want this to be a disaster. I’m thinking, that 2 decent low ends should work ok since I’m putting one about each plant. I should add that I’m going to add side lighting, Most likely cfl’s. Thanks

I have had great luck with viparspectra. Have had 5-7 ounce dried averages per plant depending on strain with autoflowers.

@Fratolicious what is your lighting budget? I think most would agree this is where you should put your money. If your at all handy you can get some great deals on lights you build yourself. I built my last one, it took me longer to find my tools than to build the light.

Appreciate the response. Just signed up to the forum. My head is spinning with all the different info online, lol. I’m just gonna put it together and do a run. I guess I’ll fine tune things after. Thank you for the help and everyone else.

I don’t have a budget just for the fact that from a lighting standpoint, it’s sure to change. I looked at the quantom boards. Not exactly sure what I’d need to build one and where the price point would be. I’m very capable with electronics. I can tell you that 300 bucks for each light (I’m wanting two) is too expensive right now. I’m sourcing everything for the grow so the initial investment is gonna hurt a bit.

They have 4000k v2 kits for 150.00 scatch and dent on hlg site. Lots of people said its normally just a bent fin on the heatsink. I would just keep it simple though. You can grow good flowers and refine your technique before going up. Good luck OnE LoVe

i would suggest to save up and get the HLG QB’s.!!
u could go with one 135w board for now and finish filling the 2x4 with another one later.!

if u want one light to cover the tent try the HLG 260w V2 XL (extra long)…
https://growerslights.com/collections/horticulture-lighting-group/products/horticulture-lighting-group-260-watt-xl-quantum-board-led-kit

the brutal truth is…
u need 50-60 wpsf of Blurple, actual draw watts not advertised ‘‘300w’’,
2’ x 4’ = 8 sq ft x 50-60 wpsf = 400-480 actual watts draw from the wall needed,
the 2 lights u r looking at will not produce enough light, u would need 3 or 4 of them in a 2x4 tent.(at 120w each, 4 would be good, 150w each and 3 will do it)

it takes 30-40 wpsf of QB, 8 x 30-40= 240-320 watts of QB needed,
either 2x HLG 135w (270w total) $375 (new from GL) or 1x HLG 260w $350.
idk how much 4 of the Blurple’s would be, but QB is worth any ‘extra’ spent.!!!
the QB Kits r easy to assemble, watch a couple u-tube vids and u r ready to wire em up.!!
