I’ve had a bad run with hermies lately best way I can tell is that the balls have a little stem at the base where the calyx seem to be attached directly

You are getting hermies with no stress ?
I was using bag seed and seeds from a hermie. Not worth messing with bad genetics. I’m ILGM seeds all the way now
