A customer has a question and I hope we can get some opinions on it, thanks
“I’m gonna be using a 4”- 6" x 4’-6" x 8’ closet as a grow room. I guess I’m gonna need 1000 watts of light for the space. Possibly a Ipower HPS, MH 1000W for $140. or Glaxayhydro LED 600W for $160. Do you know anything about this LED light, is 600 watts gonna be enough?"
i’d personally spend a bit extra and buy a multi wattage ballast one that is capable of doing 600w 750w and 1000w I’m from UK but I’m sure solaris make them stateside for about $200 … that room would be awesome size for 6 fullsize fems of say 12 autos,
600w MH then flip to 1000w HPS
Don’t forget heat! if your using a room no worries, but tents are a huge pain when it comes to heat in my experience - all depends on location to though.
I have 2 Galaxy Hydro 300w LED in 4 x 2 x 5 and I’m happy with the lights. However at 120 true watts each they are only providing me with about 30W per square foot…I wish I’d gone for 450W x 2.
50W/sq foot is considered ample for LED, so I would suggest they consider 2-4 lamps depending on if they choose the 16 ft sq or 36 ft sq area, find the actual true wattage of their LEDs, and back calculate from there. More lamps will allow them to spread the coverage instead of one central high wattage lamp.
X true watts/sq foot space = true watt coverage.
These are simply the basics I’ve learned here, I have no experience with HPS, but in terms of the Galaxy Hydro they seem to be popular entry level LEDS, economical and easy to get on amazon, a lot of home growers here seem to use them. I chose LED for energy efficiency and low heat. Hope this helps!
There were lots of give a ways and new technology to check out
There was no cannabis consumption alllowed so that was a negative
Edit to say no cannabis protesters, which was no surprise
it was only $20 a ticket and a short train ride for me, so worth it…I may have been disapppointed if I’d travelled farther…more info on this community forum then at the convention so that speaks volumes for this community
Would have been nice to meet @latewood and @garrigan62 but loooong ride for them, hopefully those guys can make NECANN Portland Maine this fall!
