Is the jacks 321 all I will need as far as nutrients go?
@Breadstick69 my first tent was a vivosun back in the day. It was pretty decent, not overpriced, and got the job done.
Gorilla makes top of the line.
Yes. Jacks is all you will need. I would pick up a bottle of cal mag too for emergencies…
Can you explain what calmag does?
Jacks 321 is the full line up. Super simple, clean and easy. You’ll need a scale though, dosage amounts are by the gram. I’ve been using it for a little over 2 years
Why does jacks need cal mag? Part b is 18 % calcium? ???
Ive never used jacks. But i always have a bottle of cal mag for back up against my own amendments…
Yes Jacks is all you will need.
Sorry, I spent 3 days harvesting and a few not feeling so hot. For the 2x4. Pretty much any cheap tent will do. There is no need to spend a lot for one since they are all pretty much the same. For Jack’s. It is all I use other than the epsom salt and Silica. I use the armor si or the aghsil -16 I think it is. One is liquid and one is a powder. You don’t need cal mag with Jacks. The one thing I change with Jacks is I use 1.4g as to the 1.2 recommended. The little extra keeps me from seeing mag issues.
Also, for the tent. Make sure you get the 6’ tall one or you will regret getting the 5 in your first grow. I forgot to add above. With a 6’ tent. You have room on top. So if you get a filter than can be used in or out side the tent. You can put the fan and filter out side the tent saving you some room in there.
And one last tip If you want to make things even easier. You can get a kitchen side trash can. The little 13 gallon ones. Drop a wavemaker in it. And mix up larger quantity’s of the jacks at one time. You could mix up a smaller amount in veg or the whole can. But like that. All you have to do is dip from the rez and take the amount you need
Meaning no mixing every day. it is a life saver here for the days I feel really off. I just check the ph in it each morning. I use the reservoir from my autopots. But the same principle The wave maker just keep the food circulating.
Autopots are starting to seem like they are more trouble than what they’re worth if I’m just doing 2 plants in a 2x4. I’ll probably just get a trashcan with the wavemaker and just test the ph.
Honestly. For 2 plants. I would just top feed. For more an autopot is more than worth it. As long as I don’t try adding a bunch of additives in my rez. I never have issues with the autopots my self. But for 2 plants in a 2x4. I would top feed my self The up side is you will spend a little more time with your plants. I can go for days and never open my tent using autopots. I have used them long enough that my grows pretty much are on auto pilot all the time now. I forget if you mentioned it. Do you all ready know what it is you want to grow. Jut curios there.
I want to use the autopots but I’m confused how I’m supposed to put the right amount of nutrients in. I can’t just multiply the jacks 321 needed for the 13 gallon reservoir, put the nutrients in and turn on the system?
A jacks 321 rep said that would be fine as long as I stick to “regular water changes” whatever that means.
I can’t just stir the reservoir once a day and refill it when it is empty??
I got some seeds from Ethos genetics. Autos.
I mix 2 gallons at a time in a container I have and fill the reservoir with 4-6 gallons at a time. The plants will consume very little in the beginning and increase during the stretch and early to mid flowering cycle. Mixing a few gallons at a time will help with the PH drifting as well….less mixture to consume in a shorter time period
If you go with auto pots. I made a chart that would let you measure to see just how many gallons you have in the rez. And like @OGIncognito mentioned. I will often just run 5 gallons to start for veg if the plants are small. Or I only have a few plants. I will come back in a few with a walk through for me if I am not doing a full rez. Most of the time I just do full ones because i am running 8 plants or more. This may help you also OG Ok, sorry. I am doing up dates to this and needed a re start lol
Here is a chart I made for my rez. I have a white line taped with pin striping tape on the side. it is 2" below the lip. I fill to that line. I get 11 gallons in the rez at that point. And can re fill the same every time.
When I use the chart to see how many gallons are left. I measure from the feed to the top lip of the rez.
This chart is good if you don’t want to wait for a completely empty rez to fill again. I also have a chart for measuring Jacks per gallon. The autopots really are super easy to use.
yep running 6 in the closet and the res gets 8 gallons on Sunday and a little too off around Thursday
It sounds like you need a second rez I use 2. One I run on and the other to switch to while I re fill the other.
Thanks for the info. I guess I’m back on to the autopots.
One last question about the auto pots. Should I get the plastic pot version or the geopot (fabric pots) version, and what size pots for the 2x4?
I was thinking 2, 5 gallon pots would be good?
Also what is the best medium for the autopots? I want something pre mixed that I don’t have to do any extra work with.
I have an older 2.5 plastic pot and the 3.8 plastic pot version and run 70/30 coco to perlite.there’s some growers here that run the spring xl 5 gallon fab pot version with great results. I don’t think you can go wrong with either all depends on the space available
