Disabled vet, first time grow help

My state is FINALLY letting us grow our own! I have very limited knowledge and need your help!

I think I’m set on wanting to grow in a 2x4. All I have right now is a Mars hydro sp3000.

I’ve been looking at the gorilla grow tents and the rep from the site told me the sp3000 is for green houses and that I should get the kind led x420 they offer on the site.

For the complete setup with the gorilla grow 2x4, the kind led x420, a carbon filter, and some cheaply made accessories they want $1200 (WITH the veteran discount)!

Is this guy just trying to get a bigger commission check or what? Is the MH sp3000 fine for a 2x4 or do I need the kind led x420?

Any help is greatly appreciated! I’m excited to start growing my own medicine!

So that sp3000 is a good light.

I use one in a 2.5x5 closet.
Gorilla tents are great but expensive imho, ya really dont habe to have a fancy tent, its one of the few things we van get away with buying cheap…
The sales rep is trying to well, “sale you”. Tell him kick rocks and watch the sp3000 review on cocoforcannibus.com. it works great in tents  90% of grow lights we all use are designed for greenhouses and infact, a grow tent is a greenhouse ffs

Sorry I work in sales and distribution and I hate salesmen

Get you a used tent of Facebook Market or whatever cheap one you can find and use the sp3000 you got. spend that $ you saved on autopots, grow in coco-coir mixed with perlite at a ratio of 50-70% coco-coir to 30-50% perlite, use a simple cheap but trusted nutrient line like General Hydroponics or Jacks 321.
Careful when choosing nutrition lines as they will try to “sale you” also. .
Stay away from anything thats more then 3 parts. A 1 part nutrient like General Hydroponics Maxi-gro for veg and maxi-bloom fir flower does great.
Alot of nutrient lines have ridiculous amounts of bottles that are all over priced and they make you think you need them all, but you don’t

Here’s my current grow if you want to follow along with it where i grow some nice smoke just about the most fool proof way possible

Growing can be so simple it’s kinda boring actually  till harvest of course

Welcome to the community and thank you for your service. Like the others have said, pick a grow style that suits your needs and go from there. I started in soil and Fox Fram nutrients the flushing of the plants every 3-4 weeks was a pain in the butt. Due to a fall six months ago and a shoulder injury I now grow in coco coir and autopots and Jacks 321 and haven’t look back.

If you go soil, many here use Fox farm ocean forest, jacks321, you may want a bit bigger tent, if you like growing, you will end up buying bigger anyway. sf is fine ,i use those in 2 tents. I have a few different tents, none gorilla. $$.
There are many growers who will help you with how you choose to grow. Have fun!!

There is a lot of info here and I have learned a lot. What strain(s) are you going to grow?

I chose Harlequin for my first, but think I am going to try Pennywise next time or may even try growing both at same time.

Thanks for your service.

I’m still trying to find a seed bank. I’m guessing autos would be better for a beginner? What strains are good for beginners?

Welcome to the community Autos are not easier stick to photos you will be happier. Gorilla tents are great just over priced I would look at AC infinity tents and fans great quality and reasonably priced with a 300 watt light you could go with a 2x4 or a 3x3. You will also need a good PH meter blue lab or Apera make good ones. my suggestion for nutrients for a beginner is grow dots and recharge in coco very easy and it works here’s a picture 9 days after flip.

Welcome to the community Brother. There’s a handful of vets and I was in your shoes a little over 2 years ago. I would recommend the AC infinity tents. I have a few and the 2 x 4 x 6 is a gem. The kind light fixture is expensive but works great in the 2 x 4. That light you have is also a good fixture. Tag me if you need further help :love_you_gesture:

This is what seed banks make it seem like, but autoflowers are NOT good for beginners
They can be finicky and if anything goes wrong in the first month after they sprout, you can end up with a tiny plant in flower as they flower automatically on their own schedule.

Photo period plants (that seed banks tend to call "feminized ") are best for beginners imho…
Photo periods do not start flower untill we tell them to by changing the lighting schedule.

This is a huge advantage over auto flowers, if things dont go just right in the beginning, photo periods will not trigger flowering on their own and give you time to correct any issues before they flower.
Another advantage photo periods have over autoflowers is, if you grow a plant and live it, you can “re-veg” and regrown that same plant and keep that exact same smoke indefinitely.

Think of autos as preannuals (grows 1 cycle and dies) and photos as annuals (can regrew over and over for many cycles)
As far as strain suggestions goes, what do you like
Stong or mild weed?
Fruity sweet flavors or skunky earth flavors?

Welcome to the family. Thanks for your service. Lots of vets here.

We are over 60 and on our 3rd grow.

They, photos and autos both have pros and cons.

Welcome aboard.

and
you can have many friends from this forum, congratulations on making it here.
Good growing to you.
WA Med License, again (tax, for freedom, fair trade).
Good people on this forum.

ILGM seed plants grow faster than my seed plants.
Possibly they know how to mature seeded plants.
I grow and I buy ILGM seeds.
Good plan, and I wish to upgrade my grow for sharing.
I can insure bag seeds, but nobody can insure the grow or grower.
So many ways to kill the ladies.

Best plan, five at a time, max. For me, IMO

@Breadstick69 all MJ has the same basic requirements as most plants and we’re lucky enough to have a Forum where we can solve one another’s problems and celebrate each grow victory as a CannaFam. I’ve grown a handful of ILGM seeds with fantastic results that have my friends and family providing stellar testimonials. Any issues you have during your grow just come in here and post the issue and watch the GrowPros dissect and solve your issue. This is a place fulla cannadicts lol. Post images as you grow, we all love bud porn.
